Alianza Lima Travels to Arequipa to Face Melgar in Clausura's Marquee Matchup

Eleven points clear, with Melgar breathing down its neck just one back. That's how Alianza Lima arrives at matchday 6 of the 2026 Clausura, and the schedule had exactly the test it needed waiting: a trip to Arequipa to face the team breathing closest on its neck.

The leader will visit on Sunday, August 23 (3:30 p.m.) a Melgar side sitting third with 10 points that knows a win would leave it virtually tied at the top. These are two of the three strongest title contenders in this Clausura, and neither wants to give up ground this early in the competition. Alianza arrives as leader, but the cushion is razor thin, and grabbing three points in Arequipa is never easy.

One step below, Universitario, fifth with 10 points, will look to keep pace with the teams above when it hosts a Chankas side that arrives bruised in the tournament at the Monumental. On paper it's a favorable matchday for "U" to keep its winning streak going, though in Peruvian soccer no away trip is ever a formality.

Further down the table but with an appealing fixture, Sport Boys (seventh with 8 points) will host Cienciano on Sunday (1:00 p.m.). Cienciano is enjoying a strong run in the CONMEBOL Sudamericana but needs to get back on track domestically.
