América to Play Both the Clásico Joven and Clásico Nacional on US Tour

Las Águilas fly out this Wednesday to take on Cruz Azul in San Diego and Chivas in Oakland, before heading back to Mexico for their anniversary showdown against Rayados.

América to Play Both the Clásico Joven and Clásico Nacional on US Tour

While most of Liga MX takes advantage of the FIFA break to rest up, there's no letup at Coapa. América has two heavyweight friendlies lined up in the United States before returning to official action, and neither opponent is just anybody: it's a double dose of clásico soccer that will delight the club's blue and gold faithful living in the United States.

The front office has already locked in both matches, and the squad flies out this Wednesday bound for California to carry out the tour. The first stop will be San Diego, where a new edition of the Clásico Joven against Cruz Azul will take place on Thursday, October 1 at Snapdragon Stadium. Three days later, up in Northern California, Las Águilas will square off against Chivas at the Oakland Coliseum in another installment of the Clásico Nacional, designed for the fan base that follows the club from north of the border.

Once both matches are done, the delegation will head back to Mexico City to prepare for what comes next: the resumption of the Apertura 2026 against Rayados. That match will carry extra significance, since América will be celebrating its 110th anniversary, and the club is hoping for a big turnout at Estadio Banorte on Saturday, October 10.

Almada with Nearly the Full Squad Available

Guillermo Almada will be able to call on virtually all the players who have been training normally for the two friendlies on US soil. The only confirmed absence is Alan Cervantes, who remains sidelined recovering from a muscle injury that had already kept him out of both the national team call-up and the trip to Aguascalientes.

Club officials have a specific timeline in mind for his return: they're hoping to have the full squad back together by Thursday, October 8, just a couple of days before hosting Rayados. That means Cervantes would miss both friendly clásicos but would be back in time, at least date-wise, to compete for a spot in the squad for the anniversary match.

For the club, this tour isn't just about results. These are two clásicos that fill stadiums outside Mexico and, at the same time, serve as part of the physical and tactical buildup before getting back into the swing of the tournament. The open question is whether Almada will use these friendlies to test out different lineups or whether he'll prefer to manage workloads with October's opener against Rayados in mind.
