Arsenal blitzes Lille with three goals in seven minutes to stay unbeaten in the Champions League
After a dominant but scoreless first half, substitutes Havertz, Ødegaard and Saka sparked a lethal burst that sealed a 3-0 win at the Emirates.

Arsenal needed just seven minutes, between the 63rd and 70th, to blow open a match that had otherwise been a one-sided affair without a payoff. Three goals in that span of the second half were enough to seal a 3-0 win over Lille at the Emirates Stadium, in the Champions League league phase. Arsenal's dominance in the first half was total but fruitless. In the second, with substitutions in play, the clinical finishing that had been missing finally arrived.
The first half belonged entirely to Arsenal, who racked up chances without finding the net: a Mikel Merino header in the 20th minute that sailed over the bar, a Bruno Guimarães effort that whizzed just past the post in the 19th, and another attempt from Eze that Lille's goalkeeper kept out just under the crossbar near halftime. Lille, for its part, barely threatened, managing only a shot from Dilane Bakwa in the fifth minute and little else. At the break it was 0-0, a scoreline that didn't reflect what had happened on the pitch.
The double substitution that unlocked the game
Mikel Arteta shook up his bench in the 64th minute, bringing on Kai Havertz, Martin Ødegaard and Bukayo Saka, and the impact was almost immediate. A minute earlier, in the 63rd, Jurriën Timber had opened the scoring with an angled finish from the right after a pass from Noni Madueke. Lille hadn't even recovered when, in the 66th minute, Eberechi Eze finished with his left foot from the center of the box, set up by the newly introduced Saka. And to cap off the rout, in the 70th minute, Saka himself returned the favor with a low shot just inside the left post, set up by Havertz. In seven minutes, Arsenal went from frustration to celebration.
Lille, who had lost Ayase Ueda to injury in the second half, tried to mount some response with Olivier Giroud on the field, but never created any real danger against the home goal.

Arsenal's 16 shots against Lille's mere 4 paint a clear picture of how the match unfolded. According to our xG estimate calculated from the shots taken, Arsenal generated 1.69 expected goals compared to Lille's 0.27, a gap that confirms the home side deserved far more than the scoreline showed at halftime.
The final result, in fact, ended up very close to what we projected beforehand: we had given Arsenal a 67% chance of winning, with a 23% chance of a draw and just 10% for Lille, along with expected goals of 1.87 for the home side against 0.57 for the visitors. The final 3-0 scoreline only confirms that pre-match reading.
What it means in the standings
With this result Arsenal moves to 6 points from two matches played, with a perfect record, sitting in third place in the competition, level on points with Barcelona and Sporting CP. Lille, meanwhile, has two losses in as many matches and remains without points, near the bottom of the table. The 6-point gap between the two sides in the standings says it all about how far apart they are right now.
For Arsenal, the match leaves the impression of a team that, even though it took time to find the net, never lost control: it dominated possession, piled up shots and ultimately found the answer through its bench. For Lille, the road in Europe remains a steep climb.
