Arturo Vidal already considers Chile's title won: "Being Colo Colo, it has to be ours"

Ten points of cushion aren't enough for Arturo Vidal. He wants more. And he said so straight up, with no diplomacy, as usual: for him, the Chilean Primera Division title already has an owner.

The midfielder spoke on his Kick channel just days before the Superclasico against Universidad de Chile, set for Sunday at the Estadio Nacional. Colo Colo comes in as league leader after drawing with O'Higgins, a result that left a bit of a bad taste, but it didn't shake Vidal's confidence when talking about the big goal: star number 35.

"I'm going to talk the way I am, the way I like things. We're ten points up on second place, and third and fourth are far behind. Being Colo Colo, the way we are, the title has to be ours, there's nothing more to it," said the King, making clear there's no room for doubt in his mind.

Overconfidence? Maybe. But that's Vidal, and that's how he put it to the fans: no holding back. He said the current squad has enough quality to avoid repeating back-to-back bad stretches, and he had no patience for those calling for caution. "People say, 'you shouldn't think that way.' No. We're Colo Colo, we've got a great team, and that's that," he added.

The clasico, no excuses

On the matchup against the Blues, the two-time Copa America champion with the Chilean national team was just as direct. There's no room to speculate about what Universidad Catolica does or what any other rival does either: for Vidal, Colo Colo has to beat everyone, starting with Sunday's clasico.

The midfielder also took the chance to be self-critical about the penalty kick he missed in the draw with O'Higgins. He admitted that this time he didn't study the goalkeeper the way he usually does and that his execution was off. "I just tried to hit it hard and it went way over the bar. See, when I go to take a penalty I don't crouch down much. I hit it pretty upright and it went off there, and the pitch..." he explained, before admitting that maybe the decision to take the kick himself wasn't the right one.

"I hesitated for a moment. I should have let Maxi (Romero) take it. That's on me. A lesson learned too. The rough pitch didn't help either," Vidal said in closing, not dodging responsibility but not lowering his standards one bit for what's ahead.

With a comfortable lead atop the table and a Superclasico right around the corner, Vidal's words have already started making the rounds among Colo Colo fans, who hope the talk translates into results this Sunday at the Estadio Nacional.
