Aston Villa thrash Fenerbahce 6-0 to make it two wins from two in the Champions League
Braces from Jackson and Barkley powered Aston Villa to a 6-0 demolition of Fenerbahce at Villa Park, keeping the club perfect through two Champions League matches.

It took just eleven minutes for Johan Manzambi to break the deadlock, and from there Villa Park witnessed a rout that finished 6-0 in favor of Aston Villa over Fenerbahce. The result keeps the hosts perfect through two games in the Champions League and sends the Turkish side home with a night to forget.
The story was written in the first half. Manzambi opened the scoring in the 11th minute with a left-footed finish off a corner kick, and from there Nicolas Jackson took over: he scored twice in the span of eight minutes, first in the 30th minute with a right-footed strike from outside the box assisted by Boubacar Kamara, then in the 38th with another low finish, this time set up by Ross Barkley. Aston Villa went into the break up 3-0, needing little more than clinical finishing in both boxes.
Fenerbahce did not go down without a fight, creating chances through Vedat Muriqi, Oguz Aydin, who even rattled the crossbar in the 33rd minute, and Mason Greenwood, but the Villa goal held firm against everything thrown at it in the first half.
The second half confirmed the rout
Nothing changed after the break. In the 66th minute, Ismail Yuksek brought down Manzambi inside the box for a penalty, and Ross Barkley made no mistake from the spot to make it 4-0. Barkley struck again just four minutes later, in the 71st minute, with a left-footed effort from outside the area after an assist from Ibrahim Mbaye, completing his second-half brace. The scoring wrapped up in stoppage time, in the 89th minute, when substitute Tammy Abraham finished from close range to make it a final 6-0.
The match statistics reflect the gulf in quality inside the boxes, though not so much in terms of possession:
| Statistic | Aston Villa | Fenerbahce |
|---|---|---|
| Possession (%) | 44.8 | 55.2 |
| Shots | 20 | 15 |
| Shots on target | 11 | 4 |
| Big chances | 2 | 3 |
| Corners | 9 | 7 |
| Passes | 389 | 470 |
| Fouls committed | 12 | 6 |
Fenerbahce held more of the ball and even generated more clear-cut chances, but lacked the finishing touch: only 4 of their 15 shots were on target, compared to 11 for a far more clinical Aston Villa. That gap in efficiency also shows up in the post-match expected goals, which we calculate at 2.94 for the hosts against 1.88 for the visitors, a margin that still falls well short of the six goals Unai Emery's side ultimately scored.
Before kickoff, our projection gave Aston Villa a 49% chance of winning, with a 26% chance of a draw and a 25% chance of a Fenerbahce win, and we had forecast a scoreline close to 1.75 goals for the hosts and 1.19 for the visitors. Reality blew past that forecast: Aston Villa did not just win, they more than tripled the goals we had projected, on one of those nights when everything clicks for a team.
In the standings, the result leaves Aston Villa with 6 points from a possible 6, sitting third in the table with a goal difference of +7, sharing the points lead with Paris Saint-Germain, Barcelona, VfB Stuttgart, Liverpool, Sporting CP, Arsenal, Real Madrid and Real Betis. Fenerbahce, meanwhile, are left with just 1 point from two matches and a goal difference of -6, down in the lower reaches of the table. The gap between the two sides now stands at 5 points.
For Aston Villa, the night produced standout performers: Nicolas Jackson with two goals, Ross Barkley with a brace and an assist, and Tammy Abraham adding to the tally off the bench. For Fenerbahce, there is now the task of digesting a defeat that will weigh heavily on the group's goal difference.
