Atlas and America Clash at a Sold-Out Jalisco With Both Sides in Good Form

Camilo Vargas will need to be at his best against a blazing America attack, while Crespo will be without Milton Valenzuela due to suspension.

Atlas and America Clash at a Sold-Out Jalisco With Both Sides in Good Form

Estadio Jalisco has sold out, and that alone says plenty about what's expected this Wednesday. Atlas hosts America with every ticket gone, and with both clubs arriving in good form, there's no need to manufacture hype for this matchup: the standings and recent results already do that on their own.

Hernán Crespo's America sits in third place with 21 points, level with Toluca, and comes in off a rout, having beaten León 5-3 on the road against the Panzas Verdes. That result, combined with a now-complete roster following the arrival of center backs Santiago Ramos and Santiago Bueno (who are still settling into the Blue and Cream back line), has the Eagles looking to keep extending their strong run away from home, where they'll play their second straight match.

Atlas, meanwhile, isn't doing badly either. After suffering a rout against Toluca, the Red and Blacks haven't lost since, and the latest proof came in a 2-0 road win in Aguascalientes against Necaxa. That kind of consistency is exactly what a team still dreaming of contending for the top spot needs.

The Big Question Mark Is in the Atlas Goal

If there's one name that defines this match, it's Camilo Vargas. The Atlas goalkeeper, one of the best in Liga MX, will face a Blue and Cream attack that's on fire and features heavyweight names like Henry Martín and Miguel Borja. Containing that firepower will be the key for Atlas to take anything from the Jalisco in front of its own fans.

On America's side, there's a notable absence: Milton Valenzuela won't be available after picking up a red card in Matchday 12, so Crespo will have to shuffle his defense to cover the gap.

As for the probable lineups, Atlas is expected to field Camilo Vargas in goal; Adonis Frías, Jorge Sánchez, Juanjo Purata and Gadi Aguirre across the back line; Elías Montiel, Paulo Ramírez and Kevin Zenón handling the midfield and buildup; and up top, Luis Esteves, Florian Flores and Ryan Mmaee tasked with creating danger.

For America, the lineup is shaping up with Luis Malagón between the posts; Santiago Ramos, Santiago Bueno, Dagoberto Espinoza and Cristian Borja on defense; Israel Reyes, Erick Sánchez, Alejandro Zendejas and Brian Rodríguez in midfield; and the attacking duo of Henry Martín and Miguel Borja.

The match is set for this Wednesday, October 21, at 7:00 pm Mexico City time (8:00 pm in Ecuador, Colombia and Peru; 9:00 pm Eastern Time and in Chile; 10:00 pm in Argentina and Uruguay), with Estadio Jalisco set to host a game that promises excitement from start to finish.
