Bayern Munich Chases Third Straight Bundesliga Title With an Even Stronger Attack
Kompany's side adds signings like Saibari and welcomes back Musiala, while Kane enters the season after scoring 61 goals last year.

The Bundesliga kicks off this Friday and, let's be honest, almost nobody has any doubt about how the title race will end. Bayern Munich is once again the overwhelming favorite and will chase its third consecutive league title, its 14th in the last 15 seasons. Yes, again.
Lothar Matthäus, the German national team legend, summed it up bluntly in a column for Sky: the fight for a spot in Bayern's starting eleven generates more intrigue than the title race itself. Matthäus went further and predicted that Vincent Kompany's side will once again win the league by more than ten points.
The battle for starting spots at Bayern is more exciting than the race for the German championship.Lothar Matthäus
The only recent blemish on Bavarian dominance came courtesy of Bayer Leverkusen, who in the 2023-24 season completed the league and cup double without losing a single match all calendar year. It was the first time anyone had taken the crown away from Bayern since Jürgen Klopp led Dortmund to back to back titles in 2012.
An Even Stronger Bayern
For this season, Kompany has added pieces to an attack that was already frightening on its own. Moroccan winger Ismael Saibari arrived from PSV Eindhoven, though he's still nursing an injury from the Club World Cup. German defender Nathaniel Brown also joined, coming over from Eintracht Frankfurt, and the club wrapped up the signing of 18 year old Senegalese youngster Bara Sapoko Ndiaye, who arrives from Gambia All Stars and figures to see more playing time following Leon Goretzka's departure.
The big news, however, is the return of Jamal Musiala, who missed a large chunk of last season with a leg fracture. It remains to be seen how he progresses after the neurological episode he suffered during two preseason matches, which followed a change in medication.
Leading that offensive arsenal is Harry Kane, who closed out last season with 61 goals and a hat trick in the German Cup final, where Bayern thrashed Stuttgart 3-0. Fittingly, Stuttgart will be the opponent in the league opener this Friday in Munich, and Kane will want to pick up right where he left off.
Dortmund Reinvents Itself, Leverkusen Searches for Direction
Meanwhile, Borussia Dortmund is going through a rebuild that began before the summer. New sporting director Ole Book arrived in March from Elversberg to replace Sebastian Kehl, and in October Carsten Cramer took over as CEO in place of Hans-Joachim Watzke. Coach Niko Kovač inherited a squad in need of urgent changes: Karim Adeyemi left for Barcelona and Julian Brandt for Ajax, and the club brought in names like Konstantinos Karetsas, Joey Vermaan and Giannis Konstantelias to try to fill those gaps.
Leverkusen, for its part, is still searching for stability after Xabi Alonso's departure. Following a difficult year under Erik ten Hag and Kasper Hjulmand, which barely got the team to sixth place, another Spanish coach, Carles Martínez, is now in charge after leaving Toulouse in France. His mission is clear: get the team back into the top four and lock up a Champions League spot.
Further down the table, Eintracht Frankfurt, Leipzig and Stuttgart will battle for those coveted European places. And at the bottom, Schalke's return after three seasons away brings back the Ruhr derby against Dortmund, while Paderborn and Elversberg, the latter making its first ever Bundesliga appearance, will fight to stay up.
The title race may look like a foregone conclusion, but the battle for Europe and against relegation promises to be a lot tighter.
