Boca Juniors and Atlético Mineiro to settle Sudamericana in Colombia, with four Colombians on the field
Montero and Villa for Boca, Castaño and Cassierra for Atlético Mineiro, will face off on November 21 at the Barranquilla stadium.

Some finals already have a guaranteed winner before kickoff. This is one of them. The 2026 Copa Sudamericana final between Boca Juniors and Atlético Mineiro will be played on Colombian soil and, to top it off, with four Colombian players split between the two locker rooms. No matter who wins, there will be a championship shout in Colombian Spanish.
The chosen venue is Estadio Metropolitano Roberto Meléndez in Barranquilla, and the date is already set: Saturday, November 21. That detail turns the final into more than just a game for the local fans. They'll get to watch their countrymen battle for the continent's biggest trophy of the year, right in their own backyard.
Boca got here after knocking out Vasco da Gama in the semifinals, while Atlético Mineiro did the same against Montevideo City Torque. Two different paths ending at the same meeting point.
Boca's Colombian duo
For the Xeneize, the fixed name is goalkeeper Álvaro Montero, who has started every single one of Boca's games in this Sudamericana. Not a minute of rest for him between the posts. His compatriot, winger Sebastián Villa, hasn't been an undisputed starter, but he's still logged minutes in all eight of the team's matches in the tournament. Two different ways of contributing, same goal.
Castaño and Cassierra, the Gallo's bet
On the other side, Atlético Mineiro also leans on two Colombians with very different stories so far in the tournament. Kevin Castaño arrived midseason and, since the quarterfinals, hasn't missed any of his team's four Sudamericana matches, always as a starter. A run of form that quickly locked down his spot in the Gallo's starting lineup.
The case of Mateo Cassierra is different. The forward played in nine matches this edition, but a thigh injury suffered a couple of weeks ago kept him out of the semifinals. The big question now is whether he'll be fit enough to take part in the most important match of the year for his club.
So the final already has its extra storyline. On one side, a goalkeeper who hasn't left the net all Sudamericana long and a winger who keeps piling up minutes even without a fixed starting spot. On the other, a midfielder who claimed his position the moment he arrived and a forward racing against the clock to be available. Four Colombians, one trophy, and a final that will be played, fittingly, in Colombia.
For those looking to follow the match live, the broadcast will be available through ESPN and Disney+ Premium Plan for South America.
