Boca vs. Racing: a classic with an even history, 94 wins for Boca, 74 for Racing and 10 titles apiece
Across 223 matches the head-to-head record is razor tight, with memorable chapters like Maradona's 1981 title and Racing's 6-0 rout in 1987.

Some derbies are measured in league points, and others end up writing a club's history. Boca Juniors and Racing Club belong to that second group of rivals, the kind that seem to be playing for more than three points every time they meet. The numbers back it up: across 223 matches played over the years, Boca has won 94, Racing has won 74, and there have been 55 draws. In terms of goals, Boca leads with 318 scored against Racing's 284.
Oddly enough, it was Racing who dominated the early days. The first meeting was played on December 6, 1908, and ended 1-0 for Racing, who then won the next three matches as well (1-0, 2-0 and 2-1). It took Boca a while to find its footing, but as the decades passed the scale evened out, leading to the tightly balanced rivalry we see today.
Looking at more recent meetings, the stat Boca fans bring up most often is that the club hasn't lost to Racing at La Bombonera since a 1-0 defeat in the 2019/20 Superliga, on a goal by Matías Zaracho. Since then Boca has gone six straight home games unbeaten against Racing (three wins, three draws). Both 2026 meetings ended level: 0-0 in the Apertura at La Bombonera and 1-1 at El Cilindro in the Clausura, with goals from Marcos Rojo on a penalty and Miguel Merentiel. 2025 had a bit of everything: Racing won 2-0 in Avellaneda with goals from Luciano Vietto and Adrián Martínez, then the sides drew 1-1 at La Bombonera (Santiago Solari and Milton Giménez), and Racing later took a 1-0 semifinal win on the road.
Even on the biggest stages too
If the overall head-to-head is tight, the knockout meetings are almost mathematically even: 10 titles or decisive series for each side. That column includes moments both fan bases still remember vividly. Boca claimed the 2012 Copa Argentina final in San Juan, with goals from Santiago Silva and Lucas Viatri (Valentín Viola pulled one back for Racing), along with the 2020 and 2023 Copa Libertadores knockout ties, the latter decided on penalties at El Cilindro thanks to saves from Sergio "Chiquito" Romero.
Racing, meanwhile, holds two coronations that still sting for Boca fans: the 2022 Trofeo de Campeones, won 2-1 in a match that saw seven players sent off for Boca and three for Racing, settled by a late Carlos Alcaraz goal in extra time, and the 2022 Supercopa Internacional in Abu Dhabi, decided 2-1 through a Gonzalo Piovi penalty after Johan Carbonero had made it 1-1.
There are also chapters that defined entire eras. In 1981, Boca needed a draw on the final matchday to win the Metropolitano title, and got exactly that with a 1-1 result, Diego Armando Maradona scoring from the penalty spot and Roldán pulling one back for Racing: it remains Maradona's only title in Argentine football. On the other side of the ledger sits the 6-0 thrashing Racing handed Boca at El Cilindro in 1987, under coach Alfio Basile, with two goals from Toti Iglesias and two more from Colombatti.
The rivalry has also produced a long list of players who wore both jerseys: Juan José Pizzuti, Oreste Corbatta, César Luis Menotti, José Luis Brown, Julio Olarticoechea, Diego Latorre, Sergio Romero and Marcos Rojo, among many others, all part of a shared history that keeps growing every time Boca and Racing meet.
