Boyacá Chicó stuns Medellín 2-1 as Quintero-less Poderoso stumbles

With Juan Fernando Quintero left out of the lineup, Deportivo Independiente Medellín ran into a Boyacá Chicó side that played like its season depended on it in front of its own fans. And in the end, it did: 2-1 for the Ajedrezados in matchday 10 of the 2026-II BetPlay League, a game that started uphill for the Poderoso and never quite settled in its favor.

The blow came early. In the 8th minute, Sarria broke down the right flank, got to the byline and squared a perfect cross for Mera to tap in. Chicó, playing at home and hungry for points, wasted no time showing its hand.

Medellín didn't sit back. Mena had a golden chance to level things up, the kind of miss that tends to linger when the scoreline gets away from you later. But the equalizer wasn't far behind: Yeison Medina latched onto a through ball from Loboa and finished with his left foot inside the box to make it 1-1 before halftime.

Chicó retakes control in the second half

In the second half, Chicó regained the initiative and came close to extending the lead when Mera, already on the scoresheet, rattled the crossbar. The brace slipped away by inches, but the winning goal arrived just a few minutes later all the same.

In the 69th minute, Maya popped up out of nowhere to head home a cross from Mosquera and seal the final 2-1. It was the kind of goal that gets celebrated with everything you've got, especially for a team that badly needed all three points.

The result leaves Boyacá Chicó with 8 points, in 15th place in the standings, still far from where it wants to be, but with a real confidence boost after beating a team from the upper half of the table. For Medellín, on the other hand, the loss snaps a positive run and leaves the club with 15 points, in third place in the standings.

Quintero's absence was felt in the Poderoso's buildup play, which leaned more heavily on individual moments from players like Medina to threaten the opposing goal. Now Medellín will have to process the setback and find its footing again, while Chicó celebrates a win that means a great deal in its fight to climb out of the bottom of the table.
