Central Córdoba and Estudiantes Share a Thrilling 2-2 After a Wild First Half
The home side flipped the match in two minutes before the break, but Cetré leveled from the penalty spot right at the start of the second half to seal the 2-2 in Santiago del Estero.

It took Central Córdoba just two minutes to flip a match that looked like it was slipping away fast. The home side had fallen behind, surged ahead before halftime, and then gave up the equalizer moments into the second half: 2-2 between Central Córdoba (Santiago del Estero) and Estudiantes de La Plata, in Argentina's Primera División, at Estadio Único Madre de Ciudades.
The script opened with Estudiantes in front. In the 21st minute, Miguel Monsalve finished with his right foot from the center of the box, low and inside the left post, off a counterattack set up by an assist from Fabricio Pérez. Everything pointed to Alexander Medina's side controlling the flow from there, but Central Córdoba answered with a two-minute explosion that changed everything.
The two minutes that flipped the match
In the 36th minute, Leonardo Sequeira equalized with a header from the center of the box, connecting on a cross from Diego Barrera. Just a minute later, in the 37th, Michael Santos finished from close range with his right foot to make it 2-1, assisted by Marco Iacobellis. In a matter of moments, Central Córdoba had gone from trailing to holding the lead right before the break.
But the second half hadn't even started yet and there was already more drama: in the closing stretch of the first half, the referee called a handball by Alejandro Maciel inside the box, confirmed after a VAR review that carried into the second half. Edwuin Cetré made no mistake from the penalty spot in the 49th minute, firing into the top left corner, leveling things at 2-2, a score that wouldn't budge again despite more than 40 minutes still to play.
From there, the match turned even and congested, with substitutions from both sides looking for a winner (Tiago Palacios and Baltasar Rodríguez for the visitors, Tiziano Ramirez, Horacio Tijanovich and Martín Cuitiño for the home side), but neither could land the decisive blow. Estudiantes had its chances through Lucas Alario and Bautista Kociubinski deep into stoppage time, while Central Córdoba kept pushing down the flanks with Iacobellis and Barrera, but the net stayed still until the final whistle.
What the numbers say
Central Córdoba had less possession but was sharper in the opposing box, with more shots and a notable edge in corners. Estudiantes, meanwhile, controlled the ball more through its passing circulation.

| Shots | 22 | 15 |
| Shots on target | 8 | 6 |

According to our post-match xG estimate based on the shots taken, Estudiantes generated 2.958 expected goals to Central Córdoba's 2.798, a razor-thin gap that reflects just how even the match was in terms of clear chances, regardless of the final score.
The preview we published before kickoff gave the visitors the best odds of winning, with 44% against the home side's 22% and a 34% chance of a draw, and we projected a total of 1.97 expected goals. Reality blew well past that figure, with four goals in all, and the outcome ended up being exactly the one that looked least likely on paper: the draw.
In the Group A standings, this result leaves both clubs in the lower half of the table: Estudiantes de La Plata sits on 14 points from 12 matches played, with four wins, two draws and six losses, while Central Córdoba moves to 10 points also through 12 appearances, with two wins, four draws and six losses. The gap between the two now stands at 4 points.
The match leaves a clear picture: a home side capable of overturning a deficit with a lethal finishing stretch late in the first half, and a visiting side that, despite falling behind, found the equalizer from the penalty spot just as play resumed. Neither could break the deadlock over the remaining 45 minutes.
