Chelsea and Manchester United arrive in crisis for Saturday's showdown at Stamford Bridge

With Xabi Alonso looking to snap a two-game losing streak and Carrick on the brink of the exit, Chelsea and United are playing for more than three points in Premier League matchday nine.

Stamford Bridge is gearing up for a match that promises to be anything but dull. This Saturday, October 31, Chelsea hosts Manchester United for matchday nine of the 2026/2027 Premier League, with both sides arriving desperate to put an end to runs they'd rather forget.

Kickoff is set for 9:30 a.m. (Argentina, Uruguay, Chile) and 7:30 a.m. (Ecuador, Colombia, Peru), with the match airing across South America through Disney+'s Premium plan.

Two teams that need a win now

Xabi Alonso's Chelsea is coming off an uncomfortable rough patch: two straight losses, one of them a Carabao Cup exit at the hands of Liverpool. Nothing alarming just yet, but it's a warning sign for a team that doesn't want to fall off the pace at the top of the table. Playing at home, in front of their own fans, is the perfect chance to stop the bleeding.

On the other side, things are worse. Manchester United is in the middle of a crisis that's already making noise beyond the pitch: just one win so far in the Premier League, and Michael Carrick's name increasingly tied to speculation about his departure. The trip to London comes at the worst possible time for a team desperate for results.

How the squads line up

For Chelsea, Mike Penders will continue in goal while Emiliano Martínez finishes his recovery. At the back, Wesley Fofana and Josh Acheampong are the fixed names, with Moisés Caicedo and Jordan Henderson running the midfield. Up front, Pedro Neto and Morgan Rogers carry the offensive load.

For United, Senne Lammens remains the starting goalkeeper, with Lisandro Martínez and Harry Maguire forming the center back pairing. Carlos Baleba and Andrey Santos are key pieces in midfield, while Amad Diallo and Bryan Mbeumo shoulder the attacking burden.

Recent results explain the anxiety on both sides. Chelsea fell 2-0 to Tottenham Hotspur last matchday and, just days later, was knocked out of the League Cup on penalties, losing 6-5 to Liverpool after the match finished 1-1 through 90 minutes. United, for its part, can't find a way to turn things around: it was thrashed 3-0 at home by Bournemouth, a blow that only deepened Carrick's crisis.

The most recent meeting

The last time these two squared off, on April 18 of this year, United came away with a 1-0 win in London, with a goal from Matheus Cunha settling the match. That result stands as the freshest reference point heading into a new chapter between two historic clubs that, this time, both arrive needing to climb out of a hole.
