Colidio ruled out of Vasco da Gama's semifinal clash with Boca over River paperwork mix-up
Vasco da Gama filed the paperwork late with CONMEBOL and River never removed him from its squad list, leaving the forward out of his third straight Sudamericana knockout tie.

Some signings arrive to make a difference and end up watching from the stands because of paperwork that never got sorted out in time. That is exactly what is happening to Facundo Colidio at Vasco da Gama: he will not be able to play in the Copa Sudamericana semifinals against Boca, and the explanation has more to do with bureaucracy than with soccer.
The forward had already missed the round of 16 against Olimpia and the quarterfinals against Independiente Santa Fe. Now a third straight absence is being added to the list, and the question hanging over it all is simple: is River to blame, or is it Vasco da Gama?
The story begins in the last transfer window, when River sold Colidio to the Brazilian club. The problem is that River never removed him from its official squad list for the Sudamericana. River had agreed to let him go before the tie against Independiente Santa Fe, but since Vasco da Gama had not finished sending in the final paperwork, the player was left stuck in limbo between one club and the other.
What makes it worse is the timing: Vasco submitted the paperwork three hours after the deadline set by CONMEBOL. With that delay, River no longer had the time, or the excuse, to complete the process, and Colidio's name kept appearing on its list.
A decision that worked in River's favor, even if it ended up not mattering
What stands out is that River could have taken him off the list if it had wanted to. The read on this can be harsh but makes sense from a competitive standpoint: leaving him ineligible worked in River's favor as a way to weaken a rival within the Sudamericana itself. The irony is that the calculation ended up being pointless, since River itself was eliminated by Santa Fe.
For Vasco da Gama, the absence is a real blow. Colidio settled in quickly with the Brazilian club: he has played seven matches in the Brasileirao, with two goals and two assists in that stretch. Those numbers point to a player who is locked in, and he is precisely the one who will not be available, perhaps at the most important moment of the club's season, with Boca as the rival in the semifinals.
So Vasco will have to get through the series against Boca without one of its in-form signings, paying the price for paperwork that was filed too late and a list that, whether by design or by oversight, never got updated in time.
