Colo Colo Never Made an Offer for Diego Valdes, Velez Sarsfield Confirms
Ricardo Alvarez, sporting director of the Argentine club, was blunt in confirming they never received any formal proposal from the Chilean side for the midfielder.

Fernando Ortiz had him circled in red on his list of priorities. Diego Valdes was supposed to be the signing that would transform Colo Colo's midfield for the second half of the year. But the dream falls apart, and it falls apart over something as simple as the fact that no call ever came.
From Velez Sarsfield, the club where Valdes remains under contract, the message was blunt: there was no formal offer from Blanco y Negro for the Chilean midfielder. Not a proposal, not even a serious approach. Nothing at all.
Ricardo Alvarez, sporting director of the Liniers club, confirmed as much in an interview with radio station ADN. His words left little room for interpretation.
Nothing ever came from Colo Colo, no proposal ever reached us. Diego is doing great and we're happy with him.Ricardo Alvarez
With that laid out, the transfer saga is effectively closed before it even started. The midfielder, who came through Audax Italiano's youth ranks, will keep wearing the Velez jersey, a club he remains tied to through December 2027. That long-term deal alone made any negotiation an uphill battle in the middle of the winter transfer window.
The figure that was never discussed
According to radio ADN's own reporting, Velez was asking for a fee close to $700,000 to let Valdes leave, though the Argentine club hadn't shut the door entirely and was open to talks. The problem is that to negotiate, you first have to make an offer. And that offer, according to Velez's own leadership, never arrived from Macul.
So what happened with Colo Colo's pursuit? That's the question left hanging. Ortiz had publicly made no secret of his hope to land the Chilean international, a player well known for his eye for goal who was once one of the most important pieces of the Chilean national team. But between the coach's wish and the club's checkbook, there seems to have been a gap that was never closed with concrete action.
For those inside Blanco y Negro, this leaves a lesson about how the transfer market works: dreaming about a name isn't enough, you have to back it up with an offer on the table. Meanwhile, Valdes will continue his season in Argentina, at ease and, according to his own club's leadership, comfortable in Liniers. Colo Colo, for its part, will have to look elsewhere if it wants to reinforce that midfield before the transfer window closes.
