Correa after River's win over Racing: "An incredible game is coming" looking ahead to the Superclasico
River's forward broke down the win over Racing and previewed the upcoming match against Boca in the Clausura 2026.
River won, and won in front of its own fans at the Monumental, and the moment the final whistle blew on the victory over Racing in matchday 14 of Zone B of the Clausura 2026, there was already another game on everyone's mind: the Superclasico against Boca. Angel Correa, one of the standout names in the win, put into words what's coming next.
The forward spoke with ESPN after the match and broke down the team's current form, which remains firmly in the hunt for the title and a spot in continental competition. He made clear that as long as the math is still in their favor, River isn't going to let up. "As long as the numbers work out, we're going to fight, to battle in every game, because that's what this club deserves, to always be fighting up top," Correa said.
Asked whether the team has already found a clear identity, the forward was pretty honest. He compared the performance against Racing to the showing in Cordoba against Belgrano, and admitted there's still work to do to smooth things out. He explained that long stretches without matches make it harder to find their rhythm, and that the team feels better on the field when they have a regular run of games. Either way, what mattered was picking up three points at home.
I think the other day in Cordoba we played a really complete game. Today the flow of the game was a bit tougher for us. We're aware that when we have long weeks without matches, that's something that's costing us a bit. When we have match rhythm, the team feels better. But what matters is that we won here with our fansAngel Correa
The Superclasico is already in the air
With Racing already behind them, everyone at River is turning their attention to the Superclasico against Boca. Correa knows better than most what that match means, not just in Argentina, but because before joining River he played in Spain and knows exactly how it's experienced from the outside. "An incredible game is coming, one that the whole world follows. Let's hope we can all pull together and bring the win back home," the forward said.
He went a bit further, describing what it was like following the Argentine classic from abroad. "Yeah, everyone over there watches it. When it's a game like that, we'd all get together. We hope to rise to the occasion, to play a great game, because we need the three points," he added, making it clear that for him this is no ordinary match.
Asked about Boca's current form, Correa didn't shy away from giving credit, but quickly shifted the focus to where he believes it belongs: on his own team. "We know Boca is having a great year, but we have to focus on ourselves. It's going to be a hard fought game like every Superclasico. We hope to play well and bring home the three points," he said.
And what if he's the one who scores the goal in the classic? The forward preferred not to get ahead of himself personally and put the collective goal first. "Ever since I've been here, I've always dreamed of playing well and helping the team," Correa closed, already with his mind on River's next big challenge in what remains of the Clausura 2026.
