Darias adjusts to any position at Peñarol, warns against letting up in the Annual Table

When a coach shifts you around from game to game and the team keeps winning, you're clearly doing something right. That's the case with Eduardo Darias at Peñarol, who lined up as a left wing back in the latest win over Albion in the Torneo Clausura and once again delivered without missing a beat.

The Peñarol midfielder didn't overthink it: what mattered was the result. "The most important thing was winning. I'm there to help out and try to play, and I guess I can adapt to a few different positions," Darias explained about his role against Albion.

That ability to fit wherever the team needs him is nothing new. A career spent mostly as a central midfielder has given him a clear comfort zone, but that doesn't stop him from pushing out wide whenever Diego Aguirre asks him to. "I played as a central midfielder for a long time and that's where I feel most comfortable, but I can play out wide too, at fullback or as a winger. As long as I can help the team, I'll do my part," he stressed.

And that's exactly the other point Darias wanted to highlight: the trust his coach places in him. That's no small thing for a player who shifts roles depending on what each match demands.

"When the coach shows you that kind of trust, it means a lot, and when he uses you in different positions, sometimes you can solve things on the field without him having to make a substitution. I feel backed," Eduardo Darias

Discipline, the foundation of the improvement

Beyond his own situation, Darias also touched on the team's collective growth over the last two matches, with wins over Danubio and Albion. For the midfielder, the key lies in an aspect that often gets overlooked when people talk about soccer: staying organized on the field.

"I think we've improved our discipline and now we're also being effective. It all starts with staying organized," Darias said, making clear that the team's recent efficiency isn't coming out of nowhere, but is the result of a more solid collective performance.

The midfielder also looked ahead to what's coming. With the Annual Table so tight, there's no room to ease up. "We know every match is a final, the Annual Table is very tight, and we have to win every game to stay on top," he stated.

Darias's take sums up Peñarol's moment well: a player who adjusts to whatever the coach needs, a team that has found discipline and efficiency in recent matches, and the awareness that in a tight standings race, there's no room to let up.
