Dario Osorio Set for Possible Crystal Palace Debut Against Fulham on Saturday
Pierre Sage has already included him in his plans and says the Chilean will change the way the team plays.
The ink on the contract has barely dried, and he could already be stepping onto the turf at Craven Cottage. That's how fast things are moving for Dario Osorio, who was officially announced just this past Tuesday as the newest player at Crystal Palace, and who now looks set to make his Premier League debut this Saturday away to Fulham.
This is no ordinary debut. Osorio arrives in one of the toughest leagues in the world carrying the label of Chile's latest export to English football, and the club wasted no time putting him in the mix for the starting lineup, or at least for the matchday squad. Manager Pierre Sage raised expectations even before the player has had a chance to step onto the pitch in his new jersey.
"We need a player with pace in this position, and he's capable of shooting from distance," the French coach explained when discussing the qualities of the attacker born in Hijuelas. He then went a step further with a comment that makes clear the role he envisions for the Chilean within the system:
He will change the way we play.Pierre Sage
Big words for a player who has only just landed in England. But Sage didn't stop at the signing: he also shared his thoughts on the matchup against Fulham, a side that has settled into the middle of the Premier League table over the past few seasons.
A Game to Set the Benchmark
Palace's manager was clear about what this fixture means for his team, regardless of the recent history between the two clubs. "Football has no memory. What happened before can always be questioned, especially this year with so many new players and coaches on both sides," he said.
I'm so glad to play against them, because we need a reference game right now.Pierre Sage
That idea of a "reference game" sums up where Crystal Palace stand at the moment: a team in need of results that can serve as a gauge, now adding another piece to the squad right before a tough test on the road.
Kickoff is set for this Saturday at 10:00 a.m. Chilean time at Craven Cottage, Fulham's home ground. If Osorio does make the matchday squad and gets on the field, he'll become the latest Chilean to feature in the Premier League, a step that seemed distant just days ago and is now only hours away from becoming reality.
