The Dutch midfielder is gradually working his way back into training while Raphinha and Joan García are targeting Saturday's match against Getafe.

De Jong back in training with Barcelona squad two months after World Cup injury

Two months after getting hurt in the middle of the 2026 World Cup, Frenkie de Jong was back on the grass alongside his teammates. It happened this Tuesday, during a group training session at Barcelona, and even though the Dutchman only managed to complete part of the session, just seeing him out there says plenty about how his recovery is coming along.

The midfielder injured the medial collateral ligament in his right knee while playing for his national team at the last World Cup. Upon returning to Catalonia, the club had to choose between two paths: surgery or a conservative treatment approach. They went with the latter, and since then De Jong has been working on his own to get back to full fitness, until this Tuesday, when he was finally able to join the group. Still, there are more milestones to clear before he's ready to compete again.

He wasn't the only one back after the international break. German forward Karim Adeyemi also returned to training after playing in his national team's matches against Serbia and Greece, from which he was released early by head coach Jurgen Klopp to report back to Barcelona.

Raphinha and Joan García eyeing Saturday

The other storyline from training involved Raphinha and goalkeeper Joan García, who did individualized work apart from the group. Even so, the club remains hopeful that both will be available for Saturday's LaLiga match against Getafe.

Raphinha's issue stems from discomfort in his right thigh that he suffered during Brazil's match in Australia. Medical tests, however, ruled out anything serious, which explains the optimism heading into the weekend.

Joan García, for his part, is dealing with swelling in his right knee that already cost him the last league match against Sevilla and also kept him out of the Spanish national team call-up. The goal now is for him to reclaim his starting spot between the posts as soon as possible.

With De Jong gradually building up his minutes, Adeyemi already back in the fold, and two key names closing in on medical clearance, Barcelona is slowly starting to see its injury list thin out.
