Di María's hot streak continues: he scored against Huracán and has now found the net in five straight games

There wasn't much time left and the Gigante de Arroyito crowd could already taste it. Ángel Di María showed up right on cue once again, putting away Rosario Central's 2-0 goal against Huracán, a blow that finished off a match El Globo had started to complicate with its persistence.

El Canalla had taken the lead in the first half thanks to a goal from Emanuel Coronel, but Huracán refused to fold and kept stretching the game, looking for a way back in. The outcome seemed uncertain until, in the 84th minute, everything was settled in a sequence as strange as it was lethal.

Just seconds earlier, Di María had missed a one-on-one chance against goalkeeper Hernán Galíndez. Nothing suggested the next play would end in a goal. Huracán was trying to build out from the back when Máximo Palazzo made two mistakes in a row: first he failed to properly control a long ball, and then, trying to clear it, left the ball there for the taking. That's when Franco Ibarra pounced, beating the defender to the ball and finding himself one-on-one with the keeper near the box.

Instead of going for goal himself, Ibarra looked up, spotted Di María well positioned, and delivered a perfect assist. The rest was routine for the 2022 World Cup champion, who finished calmly to make it 2-0. The substitution came right after: Di María made way for Mallo and walked off to a standing ovation from the entire crowd at the Gigante de Arroyito, who have grown used to sending him off that way.

A streak that won't quit

Saturday's goal was no ordinary one for Fideo. It was his 28th goal in 92 games wearing the Rosario Central jersey, and it comes at a moment of remarkable form: he has scored in five of his last five matches, with goals against Estudiantes (twice, in the Supercopa Internacional), against Independiente Rivadavia (also twice) and now against Huracán.

The result carries extra weight in the standings as well. With this win, the team coached by Almirón cemented its position atop Zone B, with 28 points from 14 matches, and also climbed, at least for now, to the top of the Annual Table, with 56 points. That top spot depends on what Boca (54), Argentinos (54) and Independiente Rivadavia (53) do afterward, so nothing is settled just yet.

What's clear is that Rosario Central keeps piling up reasons for optimism, and Di María, far from slowing down, looks determined to keep setting the team's pace match after match.
