Dimayor Upholds Inter's 2-0 Loss to América but Bans Yhormar Hurtado Through End of 2026

It's rare for a ruling to leave absolutely no one satisfied. Dimayor handed down its decision on the Yhormar Hurtado case, and instead of putting the controversy to rest, it only deepened it: the federation dismissed Inter de Bogota's complaint over the defender's eligibility in the match against America de Cali, yet at the same time declared him "ineligible" for the rest of the 2026 season in any tournament organized by the body.

How does that make sense? It doesn't, not really, and that contradiction is baked right into the ruling. The result of the match between Inter and America, which had ended 2-0 in favor of the Cali side, stands unchanged. But the player at the center of the whole mess won't be allowed to set foot on a Colombian professional pitch again for the rest of the year.

The origin of the dispute goes back several weeks. America de Cali has been dealing with a messy situation involving Hurtado, who came under scrutiny for the number of clubs he was registered with during the same season. He was first pulled from the squad, then returned to play normally, as if the matter had already been settled. It hadn't. Several clubs in the FPC spoke out and announced they would file complaints over the matches in which the defender had featured.

One of the loudest voices belonged to Alianza FC, whose president said the club would challenge the match that ended 3-0 in America's favor, with Hurtado on the field. The club from Valle del Cauca has already signaled it's prepared to take the fight to the legal arena if necessary.

Inter de Bogota was among the first to pursue this route, and now has an official answer. And that answer, as noted, was a mixed bag: the scoreline stays intact, but the player faces consequences going forward. The suspension takes effect from the moment the ruling was published, meaning America will no longer be able to count on Hurtado for the remainder of 2026.

David Gonzalez's Reaction

America's coach, David Gonzalez, was asked about the ruling in an interview with ESPN F360 and didn't hide his frustration. He spoke about how hard it is to make sense of standards that seem to shift by the day, and made clear the club would now look into legal options to try to overturn the sanction against its player.

"It's a tough one because you can't quite wrap your head around it, one day it's fine and the next it isn't. This ruling just came out, I don't want to give my opinions right now, and our club's legal team will take it from here. Hopefully it gets sorted out, otherwise it'll be another obstacle we'll have to deal with, like others we've faced, and hopefully we can handle the gap it leaves in the best way possible," David Gonzalez

With the suspension now final and the club's legal team already involved, America will have to figure out how to cover the loss of a starter at the back, while the Hurtado case continues to be a talking point across the rest of the FPC.
