Doumbia's brace and Mwanga's red card send Brest past Le Havre

A penalty in the 11th minute cracked the door open, and Le Havre never quite managed to shut it again. Brest took all three points from the Stade CMA CGM Océane with a 1-2 win that was shaped by a red card and sealed by a Kamory Doumbia brace that gave the visitors just enough cushion to hold on until the final whistle.

The match, part of Ligue 1, opened with Le Havre pushing forward through Josh Maja as early as the 3rd minute, but it was Brest who broke through first. A penalty committed by Lionel Mpasi on Ludovic Ajorque, which also earned the goalkeeper a yellow card, allowed Doumbia to make it 0-1 from the spot with a strike to the right side of the net.

The turning point: Mwanga sees red

Le Havre had responded with chances from Mbwana Samatta, whose header crashed off the crossbar in the 13th minute, and from Amir Richardson, but the score stayed unchanged before halftime. In the 77th minute, Enzo Koffi was fouled inside the box by Luck Zogbé, and the referee pointed to the spot for a second penalty of the match, this time in the home side's favor. Rayan Fofana, who had come on just minutes earlier, made no mistake and buried it into the top corner to make it 1-2 in the 78th minute. Stoppage time stretched to seven minutes due to medical stoppages for both goalkeepers, but the score held.
