Rondon's brace sparks historic Pachuca rout of Tigres
With two goals from Salomon Rondon and another from Kenedy, Pachuca crushed Tigres 3-0 at Estadio Hidalgo, a result far beyond what pre-match forecasts had predicted.

Salomon Rondon needed only a few yards and his left foot to tear Tigres apart. The forward scored twice as Pachuca ran out 3-0 winners at Estadio Hidalgo, a scoreline that bears no resemblance to how things stood at halftime, nor to what anyone expected before kickoff.
The match started evenly, with Pachuca creating more chances but unable to finish them off: Rondon had already rattled the right post with a shot in the 9th minute, and he, along with Rodolfo Pizarro, Christian Rivera and Alan Bautista, had tried their luck without success. Tigres, for their part, answered through Juan Brunetta as their main threat, though they struggled to seriously trouble the home goalkeeper. The deadlock broke right before the break: in the 41st minute, Rondon finished with his left foot from close range, right by the post, to make it 1-0 at halftime.
The second half: a collapse for Tigres
What looked like a tight game fell apart in just 27 minutes of the second half. In the 52nd minute, Rondon struck again, this time finishing through the middle of the goal after an assist from Oussama Idrissi, making it 2-0. Idrissi was a constant threat throughout the match and had a hand in the third goal as well: in the 68th minute, Kenedy, who had come on shortly before, fired home with his left foot from outside the box to make it a final 3-0.
The closing stages brought an extra twist on the disciplinary front. In the 78th minute, VAR overturned an initial red card shown to Alan Franco, but just a minute later the Tigres defender was sent off anyway, leaving his side with ten men for the final stretch. It was a night to forget from start to finish for Tigres in Pachuca.
The numbers back up the rout
The stats leave no doubt about who controlled the game: Pachuca created far more chances and converted them efficiently.
| Stat | Pachuca | Tigres |
|---|---|---|
| Possession (%) | 49.8 | 50.2 |
| Shots | 21 | 10 |
| Shots on target | 7 | 2 |
| Big chances | 3 | 1 |
| Corners | 4 | 4 |
| Fouls committed | 17 | 6 |
Pachuca finished with 21 shots to Tigres' 10, with an even clearer gap in shots on target: 7 to 2. According to our estimate based on the shots taken in the match, Pachuca generated 3.47 expected goals compared to just 0.70 for Tigres, a gap that confirms the rout was no fluke but rather a reflection of clear on-field dominance, even though possession ended up almost even.
The result also stands in sharp contrast to what was projected before the match. Our preview gave Pachuca a 36% chance of winning, with 32% for a draw and 32% for a Tigres win, with expected goals of 1.18 for the home side and 1.09 for the visitors. Reality ended up far exceeding that balanced forecast: Pachuca did not just win, they did so with a dominance nobody saw coming.
What the result means in the standings
In the Liga MX table, Pachuca came into this match in 11th place with 19 points from 15 games played, while Tigres sat 15th with 15 points also from 15 matches, just 4 points behind their opponent on the night. The rout does not fundamentally change either team's standing in the table, but it does leave a striking image: Pachuca made the most of a night in which Rondon was the standout performer, while Tigres leave Estadio Hidalgo with a clear defeat and a man sent off to boot.
