A second-half brace from Douvikas gave Como a 2-0 win over Sassuolo at the Giuseppe Sinigaglia, lifting the club into fourth place in Serie A.

Douvikas scores twice in 11 minutes as Como sinks Sassuolo

Tasos Douvikas needed just 11 minutes of the second half to put Sassuolo away. First in the 48th minute, with a close-range right-footed finish off a Maxence Caqueret assist, then again in the 59th, tapping in a ball squared across the box by Kaiki. Two goals, one executioner, and Como closed out a 2-0 win at the Giuseppe Sinigaglia in Serie A play.

The first half had been a one-sided affair without a payoff. Como controlled the ball and created the clearer chances (a Douvikas shot in the 13th minute, another from Martin Baturina in the 14th, and one more from Caqueret in the 22nd that Stefano Turati parried low) but the score remained level at the break. Sassuolo, leaning on Benja Dominguez and Kieron Bowie as its main attacking threats, barely troubled the home side: a shot from Dominguez in the 18th minute that sailed over the bar was about as close as the visitors came to testing the home goal.

The second half changed everything

As soon as the second half got underway, Cesc Fabregas had already shaken up his lineup, sending on Luis Milla, Jayden Addai and Jacobo Ramon for Samuele Ricci, Baturina and Willy Kambwala. The impact was immediate. Three minutes into the restart came Douvikas' first goal, and eleven minutes later, his second. In between, Como kept pressing: Addai tried his luck in the 52nd minute, Caqueret also in the 52nd with a header, and Jacobo Ramon in the 54th. Sassuolo, with Domenico Berardi and later Armand Laurienté on the field, had their own chances through Duje Caleta-Car and Berardi himself, but never found a way past Como's defense.

The match wound down with substitutions and yellow cards (shown to Berardi, Yan Couto, Van der Brempt and Luis Milla) but no late drama on the scoreboard. Como managed the lead comfortably to the finish, even through four minutes of stoppage time that did nothing to change the result.

According to our own in-house estimate calculated after the match, Como generated 2.22 expected goals compared to just 0.357 for Sassuolo, a gap that confirms the home side's dominance went beyond mere possession and extended to genuinely dangerous chances.

The result also lined up closely with our pre-match projections: we gave Como a 67% chance of winning, with 21% for a draw and just 12% for Sassuolo, with expected goals of 2.23 for the home side and 0.86 for the visitors. The final score, 2-0, ended up matching those numbers almost perfectly.

What it means in the standings

With this result, Como moved to 17 points from eight matches played (five wins, two draws and one loss), sitting in fourth place. Sassuolo, meanwhile, remains on 8 points after eight matches (two wins, two draws and four losses), in 14th place, with a negative goal difference that this loss does nothing to help. The two sides are now separated by 9 points in the standings, a fairly accurate reflection of what played out on the field at the Giuseppe Sinigaglia.
