Bayern in no rush as Kane contract talks edge toward 2029 extension
Freund says nothing is signed yet but talks with the striker, who has scored 152 goals in 154 appearances, are progressing well.

In Munich, nobody wants to hear talk of Harry Kane leaving. And judging by what's coming out of the club, it doesn't sound like he'll need much convincing to stay.
Bayern's sporting director, Christoph Freund, stepped in front of reporters on Friday to cool things down, but in the best possible way. Nothing is signed yet, he made clear, though there's no reason to worry either. Earlier in the week, reports in Germany suggested Kane had agreed to the broad terms of a new contract that would keep him at the club through 2029, and Freund didn't deny it. He simply asked for patience.
"There are always scenarios as long as it isn't signed," Freund said alongside head coach Vincent Kompany. "There's no new development. The talks are going well, we're very positive, everyone knows we're determined to extend his contract, and Harry feels very comfortable here."

And there's plenty of reason for Bayern to move fast. Since arriving from Tottenham in 2023, Kane has made Munich his footballing home: 152 goals in 154 appearances, no less, and the Bundesliga's top scorer award in every one of his seasons in Germany. With him on the field, Bayern won two league titles and the DFB-Pokal last season. At 33, Kane hasn't just avoided slowing down, he's kept up a pace that's downright alarming for opponents.
And it's not just in Munich. On Tuesday, wearing England's shirt, Kane matched a record by making his 125th appearance for his country, and he marked the occasion in style: two goals in a 3-0 win over the Czech Republic. That kind of sustained level is exactly what has put him among the top contenders for the Ballon d'Or, to be awarded this month in London.
Olise, settled with a contract through 2029
On that same list of contenders is a Bayern teammate: Michael Olise. Asked about his players' chances, Kompany didn't even want to get into it. "I think that's already decided, isn't it?" he answered jokingly. "So I can't change anything even if I say something. Sorry, but I don't have the Ballon d'Or on my mind every day. Today I'm only thinking about Saturday's game against Augsburg."
I hope a Bayern player wins it. But of course, it's more important to me that we win trophies with Bayern. I know Harry and Michael well, they think the same way. That's what sets us apart as a team.Vincent Kompany
Olise's strong form, by the way, has put him on Real Madrid's radar. But in Munich, nobody seems too anxious about that front either. Freund was blunt: "Michael has had an incredible development with us and today he's one of the best players in the world. We're extremely happy that he plays for us. He has a contract through 2029, so there's no pressure at all. He feels extremely comfortable at FC Bayern and we're always in talks with him."
With Kane close to extending and Olise already locked in on a long-term deal, the message coming out of Munich is the same for both: there's no rush, because there doesn't need to be.
