Bologna rallies behind a stellar Cambiaghi to edge past Lecce 1-2 in Serie A
Orsolini opened the scoring, Fatah leveled for Lecce and Enem sealed Bologna's win in a match decided by fine margins, with Cambiaghi involved in all three goals.

Orsolini wasted no time flipping the script. In the 16th minute, the Bologna winger curled a left-footed finish into the top corner from inside the box, off a cross from Nicolo Cambiaghi, to make it 0-1 at the Via del Mare. Lecce were left searching for answers, and Bologna, buoyed by that early blow, settled into a lead they managed to protect, not without some scares, all the way to a final 1-2.
The home side, though, refused to fold. With more possession and more bite out wide, Lecce kept pushing until they found their reward in the second half: in the 63rd minute, Amar Fatah rose at the back post to head home a cross from Danilo Veiga and make it 1-1. It proved to be a mirage. Eleven minutes later, in the 74th minute, Jay Enem, who had come on as a substitute, finished from close range with his right foot off another assist from Cambiaghi, his third of the night, to restore Bologna's lead and settle the final score at 1-2.
A game of crossed numbers
Lecce dominated much of the statistical ledger: more possession, more shots, more corners. But it wasn't enough. Bologna made the most of the little they had and converted the two chances they needed to walk away with all three points in Serie A.
| Stat | Lecce | Bologna |
|---|---|---|
| Possession (%) | 56.7 | 43.3 |
| Shots | 19 | 10 |
| Shots on target | 5 | 5 |
| Big chances | 2 | 3 |
| Corners | 10 | 3 |
| Passes | 409 | 315 |
| Fouls committed | 17 | 8 |
Our expected goals estimate, based on the shots taken in the match, gives Bologna 2.188 against Lecce's 1.501, a reading that backs up what the scoreline showed: fewer chances, but sharper ones, for the visitors.
Before the match we projected a clear edge for Bologna, with a 48% chance of an away win compared to 20% for Lecce and 32% for a draw, with a combined expected goals total of 2.11. The result lined up with that forecast: the side tabbed as favorite won, though Lecce made them work for it and even pulled level before falling.
What it means in the standings
In the Serie A table, the result leaves both sides bunched near the bottom: Lecce sit on 6 points from 6 games played (two wins and four losses), while Bologna have 5 points from the same number of matches (one win, two draws and three losses). Just a single point separates them, and that razor-thin margin explains why such an even match on the field ended up being decided by small details: a well-placed cross, a timely finish and Cambiaghi's knack for being involved in all three goals of the night, with one goal and two assists to his name.
For Lecce, there's a bittersweet feeling of having created more, of having earned their equalizer, and of having nothing to show for it by the end. For Bologna, a win that, while it doesn't radically reshape their position in the table, does snap a winless run and brings three much-needed points in a competition where, given how tight things are at the bottom, every single point carries more weight than it might seem.
