Perfect City looks to stay unbeaten in the Premier League against a surging Ipswich side
After falling to PSG in the Champions League, Guardiola's side looks to keep its perfect league record intact against a team coming off a home win.
A perfect record in the league and a recent blow in the Champions League. That's how Manchester City arrives at its latest home match, this time against an Ipswich Town side sitting in midtable that just pulled off a home win of its own. The Etihad Stadium will host the clash this Saturday, October 17, for matchday seven of the 2026/2027 Premier League.
The headline number is simple: City is, for now, the only team in the English league with a perfect record. Six games, six wins. But the momentum comes with a recent blemish, as City suffered a tough home loss in the Champions League, falling 4-2 to PSG, the reigning back-to-back champions of the continental competition. Nothing damaging in the Premier League table, but certainly a psychological blow that Pep Guardiola's side will look to leave behind through results in its own league.
And right before that European setback, the team had put on a show of strength: a 3-0 win over Liverpool on the road, a result that doesn't go unnoticed given it came at Anfield. That's the calling card City brings into the Etihad: a run of six straight wins in the English league and the need to reaffirm that the Champions League result was just a bump in the road.
An Ipswich side growing steadily
On the other side, Ipswich Town is living a far more even present. With three wins and three losses since returning to the top flight of English football, the club sits right in the middle of the table, neither up nor down. Last matchday, the team showed some grit at home, beating Fulham 2-1, a result that lets them arrive with a bit of confidence for a challenge that, on paper, looks like a very steep climb.
Among the names to watch in City's attack are Erling Haaland, Enzo Fernández, Antoine Semenyo and Jérémy Doku, key pieces in the offensive machine that has gone six for six in the league. On the other side, Ipswich will lean on Julio Enciso, Sasa Lukic, Dara O'Shea and Emersonn as its main hopes to pull off an upset.
Recent history between the two sides doesn't make it any easier to picture an even match either. The only previous meeting between these two teams came on January 19, 2025, when City thrashed Ipswich 6-0 on the road in the Premier League, with a brace from Phil Foden and goals from Mateo Kovacic, Jérémy Doku, Erling Haaland and James McAtee.
Kickoff is set for 11:00 AM (Argentina, Uruguay and Chile time) and 9:00 AM (Colombia, Peru and Ecuador time), with live coverage through the Disney+ Premium plan, available only in South America.
