El Clasico: a century-old rivalry still deadlocked at 106 wins apiece
The all-time series between the two clubs, spanning 264 matches since 1902, shows an almost perfect balance in both wins and goals scored.

A dead heat. That is exactly how the all-time record of El Clasico between Barcelona and Real Madrid stands if you boil it down to a single number: 106 wins apiece. No other rivalry in world soccer has racked up so many matches while still, after more than a century, refusing to tilt clearly toward either side.
The numbers speak for themselves. Since the two clubs first met on May 13, 1902, in a tournament known as the Copa de la Coronacion, Real Madrid and Barcelona have squared off 264 times. The overall record, 106 wins for Real Madrid, 106 for Barcelona and 52 draws, is probably as true a reflection as you can get of what this rivalry means: two giants who have spent more than a hundred years pushing in the same direction without either one ever managing to pull clear for good.
Even the goal tallies barely tip the scale. Real Madrid has scored 444 goals to Barcelona's 441, a gap of just three goals across more than 260 matches. Put in perspective, that is next to nothing spread over a century of history.
LaLiga, the usual stage
If there is one competition where this duel plays out over and over, it is LaLiga. That's where 192 of the 264 Clasicos have been played, and the split there is, once again, razor thin: 80 wins for Real Madrid, 77 for Barcelona and 35 draws. In the scoring column, though, Barcelona holds a slight edge within the league: 312 goals to Real Madrid's 309.
The names behind the numbers
Behind those overall figures are players who built their own personal legends within this fixture. The man who has suited up for more Clasicos than anyone is Sergio Busquets, with 48 appearances, ahead of Sergio Ramos and Lionel Messi, who each played 45.
And speaking of Messi: the Argentine is not only among those who played the most Clasicos, he is also the all-time top scorer in the fixture's history, with 26 goals. Behind him sit two names from different eras of Spanish soccer, Alfredo Di Stefano and Cristiano Ronaldo, both with 18 goals.
These are numbers that will keep shifting with every new chapter written between these two clubs. Because if this remarkably even history makes anything clear, it is that no matter what happens in the next installment, El Clasico will remain no one's territory and both clubs' territory at once.
