Frosinone stuns Como, wins 2-0 despite controlling far less of the ball
Calò and Kvernadze sealed the home win over a Como side that had 64% possession and 27 shots but couldn't find the net.

Como came into this one as the favorite according to our own pre-match projection, which gave the away side a 56% chance of winning against just 18% for Frosinone. It ended up losing 2-0 at the Benito Stirpe, despite holding more than 64% possession, 27 shots to the home side's 22, and 488 passes compared to 256. The control numbers are there in black and white, but the scoreboard tells a different story, and in Serie A, that's the one that counts.
Frosinone struck first, and did so with surgical precision. In the 13th minute, Giacomo Calò hit a right-footed shot from the middle of the box that curled into the top right corner, set up by Romano Schmid. There had already been warning signs from both sides before that: Tasos Douvikas tested the goal with a header in the 6th minute and Martin Baturina also had a look at the home goal, but it was the hosts who showed up when it mattered.
The second half opened and the blow landed immediately. Just two minutes after the restart, in the 47th minute, Giorgi Kvernadze finished with his right foot from the middle of the box, low and inside the left post, capping a counterattack that Schmid once again set up. The 2-0 arrived just as Como was trying to regroup after making halftime changes, bringing on Samuele Ricci, Moise Kean and Jesús Rodríguez.
Dominance without reward
What followed was a siege with nothing to show for it. Nico Paz kept testing shots from outside the box, Moise Kean pressed the home goalkeeper with attempts from inside the area and Assane Diao hunted for space out wide, but Frosinone dropped back and held firm, helped along by the 21 fouls it committed to break up transitions, nearly triple Como's 8.
The post-match numbers reflect that gap between chance creation and finishing:
| Stat | Frosinone | Como |
|---|---|---|
| Possession (%) | 35.3 | 64.7 |
| Shots | 22 | 27 |
| Shots on target | 6 | 8 |
| Big chances | 2 | 3 |
| Corners | 7 | 8 |
| Passes | 256 | 488 |
| Fouls committed | 21 | 8 |
The xG estimate calculated from the match's shots, which shouldn't be read as a prediction but as a retroactive look at the chances created, produced an almost identical split: 2.43 for Frosinone and 2.53 for Como. In other words, the danger-generation model suggests an even game, even with a slight edge for the visitors, which stands in sharp contrast to a final score that ended up clearly in the home side's favor. Frosinone made the most of the little it had, while Como squandered a large chunk of its attacking output.
That gap between chances created and goals scored also explains why the result runs so directly against what we projected before kickoff. The preview had Como as a heavy favorite, with 1.8 expected goals against 0.96 for Frosinone, and a draw as the second most likely outcome. None of that held up: the home side converted its two clearest chances, and the visitors kept running into the opposing goalkeeper without ever getting on the scoreboard.
What the result means in the standings
With this result, Frosinone moved to 10 points through five matches, with 3 wins, 1 draw and 1 loss, sitting in fifth place in Serie A. Como also stayed on 10 points, with the same record of 3 wins, 1 draw and 1 loss, but drops to sixth on goal difference. Both clubs sit in virtually the same spot in the table, though on this night it was the side that made the most of its chances that walked away with all three points at the Benito Stirpe.
