Jagiellonia overturns early goal to beat Ararat-Armenia 3-1 in the Europa League
The Polish side overcame an early visiting goal from Banjaqui and pulled ahead with strikes from Jozwiak, Conceicao and Sow in the Europa League league phase.

Ten minutes. That's how long it took Ararat-Armenia to go ahead at the Chorten Arena, and how long it took Jagiellonia Bialystok to realize it needed to respond fast. It did: two minutes later the score was already level, and by the final whistle the scoreboard read 3-1 in favor of the Polish side, in a Europa League league phase clash that had everything except a dull moment.
The script opened with a show of authority from the visitors. Zidane Banjaqui made it 0-1 in the 10th minute with a right-footed finish from the center of the box, set up by Maxence Carlier's through ball that caught the home defense out of position. But Jagiellonia wasn't long in answering: just two minutes later, Kamil Jozwiak equalized with another right-footed effort, also from the center of the area, making it 1-1.
The home side took charge of the scoreline before the break. In the 37th minute, Rodrigo Conceicao finished with his left foot from the center of the box, a low shot that crept in by the left post after a cross from Anders Klynge, making it 2-1 at halftime. Early in the second half, Ousmane Sow stretched the lead in the 50th minute with another left-footed strike from the center of the area, assisted by Jesus Imaz, to make it a final 3-1. From there, Ararat-Armenia pushed for a way back, with Zhirayr Shaghoyan, Artur Serobyan and others creating chances, but couldn't find the net again, even though Rodrigo Conceicao rattled the post with a shot late on.
What the numbers say
The curious detail of the match is that Ararat-Armenia dominated much of the volume stats without that translating into the scoreline. The Armenian side had more possession, more shots and more corners, but Jagiellonia was more efficient where it counts: in the clear-cut chances and in finishing.
| Stat | Jagiellonia Bialystok | Ararat-Armenia |
|---|---|---|
| Possession (%) | 42.5 | 57.5 |
| Shots | 13 | 15 |
| Shots on target | 5 | 4 |
| Big chances | 2 | 1 |
| Corners | 2 | 3 |
| Passes | 388 | 524 |
| Fouls committed | 22 | 14 |
As for the estimated xG based on shot locations, Jagiellonia generated 1.61 compared to 1.112 for Ararat-Armenia, a gap that backs up the result without being overwhelming: the match was closer in terms of danger created than the final 3-1 suggests.
Our preview gave Jagiellonia a 50% chance of winning, against 22% for Ararat-Armenia and 28% for a draw, with expected goals of 1.66 for the home side and 1.04 for the visitors. The result ended up fitting that favoritism fairly well, though the match was more open than those figures hinted at, with a visiting start that could have made things difficult for the home side.
What the result leaves behind
The win lets Jagiellonia Bialystok pick up its second victory of the league phase, reaching 3 points, with a record of one win and one loss in the two matches played so far. Ararat-Armenia, meanwhile, remains pointless after two outings, a start that leaves it 3 points behind today's rival in the tournament's overall table. With so many teams bunched together in the middle of the standings on the same points, every result from here on will carry weight in the fight for the spots that keep teams in the competition.
