Lyon demolishes Servette 0-8 as Katoto's hat trick sends them straight to first place

Eight goals, one team doing all the work, and a rout that was already decided before the clock hit the half hour mark. OL Lyonnes Féminines demolished Servette 0-8 at Stade de Genève, in a match that went sideways for the hosts from the start and never found a way to right itself.

The first blow came by accident: in the 7th minute, an own goal from Laia Ballesté made it 0-1 and exposed what was coming. Marie-Antoinette Katoto took over from there, scoring in the 27th minute off an assist from Melchie Dumornay, then doubling up in the 39th with a low finish set up by Ada Hegerberg. Servette reached halftime with the game already gone, as Dumornay added a fourth in the final minute of the first half after a counterattack built by Salma Paralluelo.

The second half opened exactly as the first had closed: with Lyon scoring right away. Katoto rounded out her performance with a third goal in the 46th minute, this time assisted by Lily Yohannes, and Dumornay matched her tally in the 53rd for a 0-6 scoreline. Servette, unable to stop the bleeding, added to their own misery with a second own goal, this one from Laura Strik, in the 67th minute. Inès Benyahia closed out the scoring in the 88th, with the game long since decided, off an assist from Caroline Weir.

Total control, no debate

The numbers explain why this was never really a contest. Lyon controlled 78.3% of possession and fired 31 shots to Servette's single attempt in the entire match. The gap widens even further when you look at shots on target: 9 for the visitors against just 1 for the hosts, who also failed to create a single big chance according to the recorded stats.
