RB Leipzig demolishes Eintracht Frankfurt 6-0 as Nkunku bags a hat trick
Leipzig raced to a four-goal lead before halftime and sealed the biggest possible rout at home against an Eintracht side that never found an answer.

It took just 43 minutes for Eintracht Frankfurt to realize there would be nothing to salvage this afternoon. RB Leipzig put four goals past them before the break and ended up sealing a resounding 6-0 at the Red Bull Arena, the widest possible margin on a day when everything went right for the hosts and nothing went right for Eintracht.
The match opened with a goal straight away: on the very first play of the game, Ezechiel Banzuzi finished low after a counterattack built off Neil El Aynaoui's cross. The crowd had barely settled into their seats when, just 4 minutes in, Christopher Nkunku made it 2-0 with a left-footed finish set up by Antonio Nusa. Eintracht, who had come out with intent of their own, Ansgar Knauff and Jonathan Burkardt both had chances, never recovered from that early blow.
Nkunku wasn't done with just one goal: in the 40th minute he struck again, this time from close range, and three minutes later, in the 43rd, he completed his hat trick with a left-footed finish through the middle of the goal. Leipzig went into the break leading 4-0, a margin that had already settled the match before the second half even began.
The second half didn't change the script
In the second half, Eintracht Frankfurt improved on the ball and created a handful of clear chances through Can Uzun and Younes Ebnoutalib, but lacked sharpness in front of Maarten Vandevoordt's goal. Leipzig, on the other hand, made the most of every opening: in the 53rd minute, Antonio Nusa finished low by the left post after an assist from Banzuzi to make it 5-0. The final blow came late, in the 88th minute, when Tidiam Gomis capitalized on a counterattack set up by Benjamin Henrichs to seal the definitive 6-0.
What the numbers say
The stats point to a more even contest than the scoreline suggests, at least in terms of ball control: Eintracht Frankfurt had more possession and more corners, but Leipzig was far more clinical with what it created.
| Stat | RB Leipzig | Eintracht Frankfurt |
|---|---|---|
| Possession (%) | 46.6 | 53.4 |
| Shots | 20 | 18 |
| Shots on target | 10 | 9 |
| Big chances | 5 | 4 |
| Corners | 3 | 6 |
| Passes | 433 | 490 |
| Fouls committed | 16 | 13 |
The xG we calculated from the match's shots also backs up Leipzig's superiority in the final third: the hosts generated an estimated 4.92 expected goals against Eintracht Frankfurt's 2.41, a gap that confirms this wasn't just a case of clinical finishing on the day, but a genuine difference in the quality of chances created.
The result also shows just how far off the pre-match projection ended up being. Our model gave Leipzig a 50% chance of winning, with a draw at 23% and an Eintracht win at 27%, and expected a much tighter scoreline, with 2.2 expected goals for the home side and 1.6 for the visitors. Reality tripled that goal forecast for Leipzig and left Eintracht at zero, something no projection made before kickoff could have foreseen.
What it means in the standings
In the Bundesliga table, Leipzig came into the match fifth with 9 points from 5 games played, while Eintracht Frankfurt sat 13th with 5 points also from 5 outings. The gap between the two sides before this match was 4 points, a distance that today's result only widens. For Eintracht, the rout deepens a goal difference that was already negative; for Leipzig, it was a perfect afternoon in which Nkunku was the standout performer with three goals and the entire team showed a cutting edge that contrasted sharply with what their opponents had to offer.
