Federico Valverde Drops Yann Bisseck With a Shot That Struck the Inter Defender at the Bernabeu
The Uruguayan's shot hit the German defender so hard it left him flat on the turf during Madrid's 2-1 win over Inter.
Some shots are felt before they're seen. This Tuesday at the Santiago Bernabeu, Yann Bisseck found that out firsthand. The German Inter defender ended up flat on the turf after putting his head in front of a Federico Valverde shot that came out with a force that's already becoming part of the Uruguayan's growing legend.
The play happened in the 27th minute of the second half, with Real Madrid ahead on the scoreboard in the 2026/2027 Champions League League Phase. Trent Alexander-Arnold sent a corner into the box, Bisseck won the first header and cleared it, but the rebound fell right to Valverde just outside the arc. The Uruguayan didn't think twice: he struck it first time with his full right leg. Bisseck, who had stayed planted in the ball's path, threw his head in front of it again to block the shot, and this time the impact knocked him to the ground.
The referee stopped play immediately and allowed Inter's medical staff onto the field to attend to the defender. After a few minutes of treatment, Bisseck was able to get back up and stayed on the pitch until the final whistle, with no major consequences reported for him.
A Win That Got Complicated Late
The final score ended up 2 to 1 in favor of the Madrid side. Kylian Mbappe had opened the scoring in the 14th minute of the first half, and Valverde himself extended the lead in the 23rd. Inter pulled one back with a goal from Carlos Augusto in the 77th minute, but it wasn't enough to take a point from the Bernabeu.
This isn't the first time Valverde's shot has stuck in people's memory for its power rather than what happened at the net. Back in April 2026, the player himself told a story along those lines, about a training session in which he accidentally hit Luca, one of Zinedine Zidane's sons, in the shoulder.
I hit it hard and the poor guy never saw it coming, he took a good shot to the shoulderFederico Valverde
That episode, combined with what happened to Bisseck, has cemented Valverde's reputation among Madrid fans as one of the squad's hardest hitters of a soccer ball. And even though Tuesday's shot didn't end up in the net, it did leave behind an image that circulated on social media throughout the match: the German defender crashing to the ground after using his head to stop a ball that, judging by how it came off the Uruguayan's foot, couldn't have been pleasant to receive.
With this result, Real Madrid keeps adding to its tally in the Champions League League Phase, while Inter will need to regroup in the coming matchdays if it wants to compete for the top spots in the standings.
