Fernando Gago pleased with Universidad de Chile's new signings: Gonzalo Reyna, Tobias Reinhart and Igor Lichnovsky
The Argentine coach reviewed the state of the new signings and warned that Lichnovsky will need time to reach peak condition.

Chile's transfer window closed on Thursday, and Universidad de Chile got in under the wire with three signings: Gonzalo Reyna, Tobias Reinhart and Igor Lichnovsky. A day later, at Friday's press conference, Fernando Gago went over how the new arrivals are settling in and made clear the club is at ease with what it landed this second half of the season.
The Argentine coach made no secret of his satisfaction with the work done during the transfer window. Two of the three already have minutes in their legs, something that matters a great deal in the middle of a title race, while Lichnovsky's return carries a different kind of expectation given what he represents for the club and for the Chilean national team.
I'm very pleased with the players who came in. Two of them have already played, and we all know the kind of player Igor is. He's going to bring his temperament, his stature and his quality. We need to get him fit as fast as possible so he can be out on the field soon and playing.Fernando Gago
It was on the subject of Lichnovsky that Gago struck the most cautious tone. The center back arrives at Universidad de Chile without much competitive rhythm this season, which forces the coaching staff to handle his timeline carefully before even thinking about his debut.
We don't know how he is. We're going to watch his physical and footballing progress. Let's not put a date on when he'll be ready. He has impressive qualities, stature, he's a national team player, and he'll contribute both on and off the field, but let's not set deadlines. We'll see how he trains and then we'll figure out when he'll be available.Fernando Gago
That statement sums up the coach's approach to last minute signings pretty well: evaluate first, decide later. There's no rush to force minutes if a player isn't in peak condition, which makes sense for someone who could be a key piece in central defense for the rest of the season.
The goalkeeper question mark
For much of the transfer window, goalkeeper names were linked to the club, rumors that ultimately never turned into an arrival. Asked about that situation, Gago was direct and chose not to get drawn into debate over specific positions that in the end weren't reinforced.
I handled it the same way the whole window: I don't talk about positions. Those are rumors, nothing happened. We're happy with the squad, and from there, it's about getting to work to meet our goals.Fernando Gago
With the transfer books now closed, Universidad de Chile's task is to fold the three new signings into the squad's rhythm. Reyna and Reinhart, with a bit more recent match sharpness, could add minutes before Lichnovsky, whose readiness will depend on how he responds in the training sessions ahead.
