Garcilaso snaps Alianza Lima's unbeaten run at Matute with Beto da Silva goal

Cusco clubs have now picked up four wins on the road at the blanquiazul fortress since 2024.

Same script, same outside culprit. Deportivo Garcilaso pulled off another one of its tricks at Matute, snapping an Alianza Lima home unbeaten run in the Liga 1 that had stretched close to a full year. One goal was all it took: Beto da Silva found the net, handing the Cusco side all three points and leaving Alianza fans with that all too familiar feeling of "here we go again."

Because this is nothing new. It's not even the second time. Garcilaso had already stunned Alianza on its own turf back in mid September 2025, winning a thriller 4-3. So the Cusco club had unfinished business against the team from La Victoria on its home field, and it delivered.

Cusco, a thorn in Alianza's side

Since 2024, Alianza Lima has rarely lost at Matute in the Liga 1. In fact, the club has fallen just four times there. What stands out, and what is starting to look like a pattern, is that all four defeats came at the hands of teams from the same city: Cusco.

Before this loss to Garcilaso, it was Cienciano that beat the Alianza side then coached by Nestor Gorosito. That happened on matchday 11 of the 2025 Apertura, with a late, lone goal from Christian Cueva, the kind that keeps you on edge until the final whistle.

A bit earlier, in 2024, it was Cusco FC's turn to spoil a party that already felt like a done deal. Alianza needed a win, plus a draw or better for Universitario against Chankas CYC in Andahuaylas, to wrap up the Clausura title. Universitario held up its end. Alianza did not: Miguel Rondelli's side pulled off the upset, winning 2-1 right at Matute and crashing the celebration before it could start.

And before that run of Cusco upsets? You have to go back further to find a win at Alianza's home from outside that region. That was Universitario, with that 0-2 result in the 2023 Liga 1 final that ended the blanquiazules' hopes of a three-peat.

Beating Alianza Lima was never easy, and doing it at Matute was even harder. Yet Cusco clubs, for whatever reason, keep finding a way. By now there have been enough of these episodes to wonder if it's really just coincidence.
