Pablo Guede shuts the door on Kevin Quevedo at Alianza Lima

The win was almost beside the point at Pablo Guede's latest press conference. Alianza Lima beat UTC 1-0 at Matute, but what really lingered in the press room was a confirmation many fans already suspected: Kevin Quevedo will not be wearing the blue and white shirt again, at least not while Guede remains in charge.

The winger has not played for Alianza since early May. Nearly three months on the sidelines is no accident, and the coach himself made that clear without beating around the bush.

Guede did not go into detail publicly, but according to Al Limite, there are as many as four reasons that ended up sealing the rift between the coach and the 29-year-old player.

The four breaking points

The first has to do with discipline off the field: Quevedo reportedly did not stick to the individual training plan the coaching staff handed out, as they did to the entire squad, for the break before Clausura preseason. That kind of program is usually the foundation for reaching physical readiness, and failing to follow it breeds instant distrust.

The second point is more about the locker room than the gym: there was no apology to the coaching staff after what happened. On a squad where day to day harmony carries as much weight as talent, that missing gesture did not go unnoticed.

Add to that a third factor, purely physical. Quevedo did not report in the condition Guede demands from his players, something that proves decisive for entering the rotation on a team competing on several fronts.

And the fourth, perhaps the most soccer specific of them all, was a lack of commitment in tactical work and off the ball exercises during training. For a coach who builds much of his approach around collective order, that detail ends up being decisive.

What's next for Quevedo?

The winger is under contract with Alianza Lima through the end of 2027, so there is no institutional urgency to resolve his situation overnight. Still, the club would reportedly be open to hearing offers from abroad if a proposal comes along that satisfies both sides.

For now, as long as Guede keeps setting the terms, Quevedo appears destined to train apart from the main group. The question left hanging is whether some club will take a chance on him before this transfer window closes.
