Independiente rout Lanús 3-1 as Millán scores twice in Argentina's Primera División
The visiting side made the most of its chances and moved to nine points in Group A.

Independiente picked up a clear 3-1 win over Lanús at Estadio Ciudad de Lanús in a Group A matchup in Argentina's Primera División. Lautaro Millán was the standout performer with a brace, and Maximiliano Gutiérrez sealed the win in stoppage time, while the home side could only pull one back through Allan Wlk during a stretch when it looked capable of flipping the scoreline.
A Millán brace opens the gap
The first half was tightly contested, with Lanús generating plenty of offense through corners and forays from Ramiro Carrera and Eduardo Salvio, including a shot from Dylan Aquino that clanged off the crossbar in the 33rd minute. Still, Independiente made its chances count and broke through in the 36th minute: Lautaro Millán finished with his right foot from the center of the box, curling it into the top corner off an assist from Santiago Montiel, to make it 0-1.
The toughest blow arrived right at the start of the second half. Just moments after the restart, in the 46th minute, Millán struck again, finishing through the middle of the goal to make it 0-2, a gut punch for the home side's hopes.
Lanús fights back before the late knockout blow
The home team didn't fold and answered almost immediately. In the 49th minute, off a counterattack, Allan Wlk scored with his left foot from the center of the box, assisted by Ramiro Carrera, to make it 1-2 and put some tension back into the match. Wlk was a constant threat for much of the second half, with several attempts that didn't find their mark, while Lanús pushed for the equalizer with the introductions of Yoshan Valois and Matías Sepúlveda.
But Independiente weathered the pressure and, deep into stoppage time (the referee had signaled five additional minutes), put the game away. In the 93rd minute, Maximiliano Gutiérrez, who had come on from the bench, finished with his right foot off an assist from Matías Abaldo to make it a final 1-3, a blow that left Lanús with no way back.
The numbers behind the match
The stats show a Lanús side that controlled much of the play but couldn't turn it into a positive result, while Independiente was more clinical with its clear-cut chances.
| Stat | Lanús | Independiente |
|---|---|---|
| Possession (%) | 52 | 48 |
| Shots | 21 | 14 |
| Shots on target | 6 | 4 |
| Big chances | 2 | 1 |
| Corners | 10 | 5 |
| Passes | 398 | 379 |
| Fouls committed | 18 | 11 |
According to our own estimate calculated from the match's shots, Lanús produced 1.986 expected goals compared to Independiente's 1.314, a gap that confirms the home side had enough offensive quality for a different result, but Millán's efficiency in the key moments proved decisive.
What the preview said versus what happened
Heading into the match, our projection gave Lanús a 43% chance of winning, against 24% for Independiente and 33% for a draw, with expected goals of 1.25 for the home side and 0.87 for the visitors. The result flipped that forecast on its head: Independiente not only won but did so in convincing fashion, adding a third goal in stoppage time that stretched the final margin beyond what the model had projected.
What the result means
With the win, Independiente climbed to 9 points and now sits third in Group A, just 3 points behind Lanús in the standings, who remain on 6 points after this latest setback. Millán's brace and Gutiérrez's late strike proved decisive in helping the visitors claim all three points despite the momentum swing created by Wlk's goal, leaving Lanús with the feeling of having produced more than the final score reflected.
