Inter Miami collapses late as León's Arcila brace completes stoppage-time comeback
The home side controlled the game with 58.5% possession and created more scoring chances, but León's ruthless counterattacking sealed a 2-3 final in the 82nd minute.

Inter Miami CF fell 2-3 to León at Nu Stadium in a match that looked destined to belong to the home side before slipping away in the closing minutes thanks to a Daniel Arcila brace. The game, part of Group 1 of the competition, produced five goals, a decisive VAR review and a comeback completed in stoppage time.
The hosts took the lead right before halftime: in the 41st minute, Dániel Pintér finished with his left foot from the center of the box after a cross from Ian Fray, sending Inter Miami into the locker room up 1-0. But the lead didn't last long after the break. Just moments into the second half, in the 49th minute, Daniel Arcila leveled the score off a counterattack set up by Díber Cambindo. The home side answered right away: three minutes later, in the 52nd minute, Yannick Bright made it 2-1 with a shot into the top corner off a corner kick.
León regroups and strikes late
The match seemed to be swinging in the home side's favor, but León refused to back down. In the 60th minute, Juan Domínguez, assisted by Iván Rodríguez, made it 2-2 with a shot from the center of the box. The game stayed even for much of the second half, with chances on both ends, until the decisive blow arrived: in the 82nd minute, Daniel Arcila completed his brace with a low shot inside the left post, once again assisted by Cambindo. The play was reviewed by VAR, and after the review was confirmed in the 84th minute, the goal went up on the board to seal the final 2-3.
In the closing stretch, Inter Miami pushed hard for an equalizer, with shots from Lionel Messi, Sergio Reguilón and Gonzalo Luján failing to find the net, while the referee added six minutes of stoppage time without the home side managing to turn the result around.
What the numbers say
Inter Miami controlled possession and generated more offensive volume, but couldn't translate that into the final score.
| Statistic | Inter Miami CF | León |
|---|---|---|
| Possession (%) | 58.5 | 41.5 |
| Shots | 24 | 15 |
| Shots on target | 9 | 7 |
| Big chances | 4 | 1 |
| Corners | 11 | 4 |
| Passes | 532 | 391 |
| Fouls committed | 10 | 13 |
According to an in-house estimate based on the match's shot data, Inter Miami generated 2.798 expected goals compared to 1.386 for León, a gap that reflects the home side's dominance in play but didn't match the final outcome: the finishing quality of Arcila and company in the key moments ended up being decisive.
A preview that didn't hold up
Before the match, our projection gave Inter Miami a 53% chance of winning, compared to 21% for León and 26% for a draw, with expected goals of 1.81 for the home side and 1.06 for the visitors. The way the match unfolded contradicted that forecast: despite playing as the favorite and controlling much of the game, the Miami side ended up handing over the win in the final minutes.
With this result, Inter Miami CF sits on 3 points through three matches played in the group, the product of one win and two losses, and occupies 15th place in the standings. The match stands as further proof that, in this early stage of the competition, no result is settled until the final whistle, and that León knew how to capitalize on its counterattacks right when the home side appeared to have the game under control.
