João Félix dreams of setting up Cristiano Ronaldo's 1,000th goal

The Al Nassr forward, who already celebrated the league title alongside Ronaldo, admits he chases the ball every chance he gets with that historic milestone in mind.

Some goals are pursued quietly, others are worth saying out loud. João Félix has already said his: he wants to be the one who lays on the ball for Cristiano Ronaldo to score his 1,000th goal. It's not some passing whim, it's a target built around a number that speaks for itself.

Ronaldo has racked up 979 goals in 1,333 official matches, so the milestone no longer feels like a distant fantasy but something that could arrive at any moment. And if it does, the Portuguese star stands every chance of becoming the first player in history to break through the barrier of a thousand goals.

Félix, who shares a locker room with him both at Al Nassr and with the Portugal national team, knows he's in a privileged position to deliver that dream assist. He explained as much in an interview with Diario AS, where he made no secret of having already thought it through.

I've thought about it. When he's one goal away, every time I touch the ball I'm going to look for him to see if I can get him the pass.João Félix

The forward joined Al Nassr from Chelsea in 2025 and wasted no time making his mark, taking home the Saudi Pro League's Player of the Season award for 2025-26 as the club won its first league title in seven years.

That championship carried extra weight because it was Ronaldo's first major trophy since arriving at the club in late 2022. Félix admitted what it meant to him to play a part in helping his idol finally lift something significant with the Saudi side.

Sharing a locker room with his childhood idol

Beyond the numbers, what comes through from Félix is gratitude. It's no small thing to have grown up watching Cristiano on television and end up sharing the field with him, first with the national team and now at club level too.

It's something few people in soccer can say they've experienced. I did it with the national team, and now at Al Nassr too. It's an honor, honestly. We grew up watching Cristiano, he was our idol, someone we admired, and now I get to share these moments with him.João Félix

On the league title, Félix went even further, acknowledging the special weight of being able to help Ronaldo win something he had been chasing since he arrived at the club.

Winning the league last year meant a lot. Being able to help Cristiano win the title he'd been chasing since he got here... We have to enjoy every bit of it because we know it won't last forever. But as long as he's here, we're going to be here too.João Félix

With that blend of admiration and closeness, Félix makes clear he isn't just looking to play the role of teammate: he wants to be at the center of a moment that, if it comes, will be etched into soccer history forever.
