Junior and Alianza Fight for Survival in Valledupar

Two winless teams in the 2026-II BetPlay League face off this Saturday, each chasing a first victory of the season.

Two teams without a single win so far this tournament are set to collide, and that alone gives the match an edge. Alianza and Junior meet this Saturday at the Estadio Armando Maestre Pavajeau in Valledupar, starting at 8:20 p.m. (Colombia time), in a matchup for matchday 10 of the 2026-II BetPlay League. The broadcast will be handled by WIN+.

The numbers say it all: Junior and Alianza belong to the small, unenviable group of three teams still searching for their first win of the season. For Alianza, fighting near the bottom, it might just be another rough patch. For Junior, though, it's an alarm bell that keeps getting louder.

A Critical Moment for the Shark

Just stopping to think about it says plenty: a team coming off back to back titles, with one of the most expensive rosters in the league, has no business staring up at the table from the bottom. Junior already changed coaches and still couldn't shake off its slow start. Now it's Sebastian Viera who has the job of turning things around, and a game like this, against another team in dire need of points, becomes an early final for rebuilding confidence.

Hope rests with Teofilo Gutierrez, who came off the bench and scored in the draw against Jaguares, at a moment when the team looked more tangled up in attack than ever. His goal did more than salvage a result. It signaled there's still something left to work with. On Alianza's side, the offensive focal point is Felipe Pardo, who has scored 2 goals so far this season and stands as nearly the only clear source of danger for a team that badly needs points.

The standings reflect the rough stretch both clubs are living through: Junior sits third from last with 3 points, while Alianza is dead last with 2 points. Neither side can afford to let more matchdays slip by without a win.

The most recent meeting between the two doesn't offer much of a clue either: back in March 2026 they played to a 1-1 draw, an even match that ended up splitting the points. This time, with both sides desperate, there doesn't seem to be room for another draw that satisfies no one.

Valledupar will be the stage where one of these two teams finally gets to breathe easier. The other will remain stuck with the same urgency as before.
