Kvaratskhelia out for the rest of the season with torn ACL
The Georgian winger tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during the clash with Barcelona and will undergo surgery in the coming days, while Dembele and Marquinhos also left the match injured the same night.
What started as a near perfect night for PSG ended with a medical report that would wipe the smile off anyone's face. The team won and moved into first place in the Champions League, but the cost was steep: Khvicha Kvaratskhelia will miss the rest of the 2026-27 season after tearing the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee.
The Georgian forward was hurt in a collision with Xavi Espart of Barcelona in the 59th minute of Tuesday's match. The image was tough to watch: he had to be carried off the field by the club's medical staff, and it was clear right away this was no ordinary knock.
PSG later confirmed the diagnosis in a blunt, no frills statement:
After sustaining a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during yesterday's match against FC Barcelona, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia will undergo surgery in the coming days.PSG
When will he be back? For now, nobody is willing to put a date on it. What is known is that injuries like this typically keep a player out for at least nine months, so the odds of seeing him again this season are essentially zero. The former Napoli winger, 25 years old, will go under the knife in the coming days to repair the knee.
Dembele and Marquinhos, the other injuries
As if the night hadn't delivered enough bad news, PSG picked up two more worries. Ousmane Dembele, the reigning Ballon d'Or winner, had to come off after just 19 minutes with discomfort in his left thigh. Captain Marquinhos didn't finish the match unscathed either, carrying a right thigh issue that will also keep him sidelined for a while.
In both cases the club is describing the layoff as "a few weeks," a much shorter timeline than Kvaratskhelia's, but one that still complicates planning right in the middle of a stretch packed with important matches.
The strange part is that, despite all this bad medical news, PSG actually came out of the night stronger in the standings: the win over Barcelona locked up first place in the Champions League league phase. Now the schedule shows no mercy: this Sunday they travel to face Lyon, the Ligue 1 leaders, in a match shaping up to be a genuine battle at the top.
