LAFC signs German forward Armindo Sieb from Bayern Munich

LAFC is active in the market, and it's betting on German soccer's youth pipeline. The Los Angeles club announced the signing of forward Armindo Sieb from Bayern Munich, a permanent transfer that ties him to the franchise through the 2028-29 season. The deal also includes a club option to extend the contract for an additional year, through 2029-30.

Sieb's name isn't exactly a marquee one, but he's a player with real experience behind him. Before this move, the 23-year-old forward spent the last two seasons on loan at Mainz, where he posted modest but steady numbers: five goals and three assists in 62 appearances across all competitions. Those figures won't make headlines, but they point to a player who has logged meaningful minutes in the Bundesliga during his developmental years.

Before that loan spell, Sieb had already cut his teeth in the 2. Bundesliga with Greuther Fürth, where he showed more of a scoring touch: 17 goals and four assists in 66 matches across two campaigns. That contrast between his time in Germany's second division and his more recent experience at the top level is precisely what appears to have won over LAFC's front office.

John Thorrington, the club's president of soccer operations, didn't hide his excitement about the German's arrival:

At the international level, Sieb has represented Germany at nearly every youth level: U16, U17, U18, U19, U20 and U21. In other words, he arrives with a broad international resume for his age, though he has yet to debut with the senior national team.

An LAFC squad fighting on two fronts

The signing comes at a moment when the Los Angeles side is fully immersed in the fight for this season's goals. In the MLS Western Conference, LAFC sits second with 34 points through 19 matches, a position that keeps it among the serious contenders for the top spots.

At the same time, the club also remains alive in the 2026 Leagues Cup, where it's looking to reach the knockout round. There, the math is different: LAFC has seven points after winning one match, drawing two others and picking up the bonus point the competition awards for winning a penalty shootout. That combination of results puts the club third in its group, awaiting results from Austin FC and Chicago Fire FC to find out whether it ultimately advances to the next round.

With Sieb now in the city, the challenge for the coaching staff will be to integrate him as quickly as possible into a squad competing on two fronts at once, one that can't afford distractions at a decisive point in the calendar.
