LaLiga reports attack on Camavinga during Clasico celebration to Spanish soccer federation

Celebrating a goal on the road always carries some risk, but what happened to Eduardo Camavinga at Camp Nou went well beyond the usual jeers. The French midfielder ended up getting hit by objects thrown from the stands just as he was celebrating Real Madrid's second goal in the middle of the Clasico, and now the incident is set to have formal consequences.

LaLiga confirmed on Monday that it will take the case to the Spanish Soccer Federation's (RFEF) Disciplinary Committee to report the attack suffered by the player. The organization explained that it learned of the incident through several videos that circulated online, which clearly show the moment of impact.

How did things get to that point? It all happened in the 88th minute, when Kylian Mbappe finished into an empty net after a brilliant individual run from his countryman to seal a 1-2 win for the away side. It was the play that decided the match, and as often happens in these situations, the celebration turned into a mob scene: several Real Madrid players ran over to hug Camavinga and, as a group, wound up near one of the stadium's end sections.

That's when the celebration took a turn. Barcelona fans began throwing objects at the visiting players, and some of those projectiles, specifically flagpoles, ended up striking Camavinga himself. His teammates' immediate reaction was to pull him away from the area closest to the stands to keep the situation from escalating further.

With the footage already making the rounds and the complaint now official, the case is in the hands of the RFEF's Disciplinary Committee, which will have to determine what sanctions apply following an incident that marred the end of a match Real Madrid ultimately won, complete with a double dose of celebration: Mbappe's goal and Camavinga's unintended turn in the spotlight from the stands.
