Laporta Pitches Spotify Camp Nou to Host the 2030 World Cup Final

Joan Laporta didn't hold back. In the middle of the tug of war between Spain and Morocco over hosting the 2030 World Cup final, Barcelona's president threw the club into the conversation with a proposal as direct as it was eye catching: that the deciding match be played at the Spotify Camp Nou.

The line he dropped, wordplay included, is already making the rounds among fans. During an interview on Cadena SER's 'Què T'hi Jugues' program, Laporta joked that "Casablanca and Madrid are the same thing," referencing the resemblance between the Moroccan city's name and the White House, Real Madrid's historic nickname.

The Barcelona president's central argument centers on the stadium's capacity. As he explained, Camp Nou could hold 105,000 spectators, a figure that, in his view, FIFA shouldn't overlook when picking a venue. Laporta also brought up a precedent that bolsters his case: the Santiago Bernabéu already hosted a World Cup final, back in 1982.

Spain, the reigning champion

Beyond the playful jab, Laporta laid out a serious sporting argument: Spain enters this discussion as the current world champion. For Barcelona's president, that detail alone should tip the scales in the country's favor.

We'll make this case and others that will surely come to us," the Barcelona president declared.

Will this proposal find an audience in FIFA's offices? For now, all there is is Laporta's word and the promise that Barcelona will formally put Camp Nou's name forward, with the stadium's capacity and Spain's World Cup history as its strongest cards.
