Lazio stuns Juventus 3-0 at the Allianz Stadium to join the title chase
With goals from Provstgaard, Isaksen and Dele-Bashiru, Lazio made the most of its chances to beat a Juventus side that controlled the ball but couldn't find the net.

Juventus controlled the ball, strung together pass after pass, and still ended up thrashed at home. The final score was a resounding 3-0 for Lazio at the Allianz Stadium, a result that turns everything expected before kickoff on its head.
The match opened with Juventus setting the tone: more possession, more forays into the opposing box, and a couple of early warning signs, including a shot from Kerim Alajbegovic in the 4th minute and one from Douglas Luiz that drifted just wide around the quarter-hour mark. But all that control never turned into a goal, and that was the story of the entire afternoon.
Lazio, more patient, waited for its moment and found it on a set piece. In the 36th minute, Mattia Zaccagni whipped in a corner and Oliver Provstgaard met it with a header from the center of the box to make it 0-1. It was the first blow in a night that would only get worse for Juventus.
The first half ended with that slim visiting lead, but Lazio twisted the knife further in the second half. In the 65th minute, Nuno Tavares set up Gustav Isaksen, who finished with his left foot from inside the box, tight to the post, making it 0-2. Juventus had its moments, with Nick Woltemade and Randal Kolo Muani stirring up some danger after coming on as substitutes, but the hosts couldn't find a way past Guglielmo Vicario.
The third goal came almost at the death, in the 88th minute, on a lethal counterattack: Andrea Pinamonti teed up Fisayo Dele-Bashiru, who had come on after Kenneth Taylor went off injured, to make it 0-3. It was the final blow to a team that ran out of answers in the areas that mattered most.
Plenty of possession, not enough finishing
The numbers tell that paradoxical story: Juventus held 57.7% possession to Lazio's 42.3% and completed 526 passes to its rival's 384, but couldn't turn that edge into clear chances. In fact, Lazio recorded 2 big chances to none for the home side, and finished with more shots on target (3 to 2) despite seeing less of the ball.
| Stat | Juventus | Lazio |
|---|---|---|
| Possession (%) | 57.7 | 42.3 |
| Shots | 9 | 9 |
| Shots on target | 2 | 3 |
| Big chances | - | 2 |
| Corners | 5 | 7 |
| Passes | 526 | 384 |
| Fouls committed | 7 | 7 |
The post-match xG figures back up the visitors' clinical edge: Lazio generated 0.964 expected goals compared to Juventus's 0.683, a gap smaller than the final scoreline suggests, meaning the away side was even sharper in front of goal than its own chances would indicate.
A surprise against the projections
The result flies in the face of what we projected before the match. Our model gave Juventus a 52% chance of winning, against just 19% for Lazio, with a draw at 29%. In terms of expected goals, the preview pointed to an even contest with more home production (1.48 to Lazio's 0.81), far from how things actually played out on the field.
The win puts Lazio on 19 points through 7 matches, in second place in Serie A, level on points with league-leading Inter. Juventus, meanwhile, stays on 11 points in eighth place, 8 points behind tonight's opponent.
What this match leaves behind is the image of a team that had the ball but not the finishing touch, against one that knew how to bide its time, strike on a set piece, and seal the job on the counterattack. Lazio leaves the Allianz Stadium with a clear-cut win that confirms its strong form this season.
