Liverpool host Brighton at Anfield needing a win to stay in the title race

Sitting fifth with 12 points, the Anfield side look to snap a losing trend against a Brighton team that beat them last time out thanks to a Welbeck brace.

Anfield opens its doors this Sunday for a match that looks set to be high voltage. Liverpool host Brighton in matchday 8 of the 2026/2027 Premier League season, and the home side can't afford another home slip if they want to put pressure on the teams at the top.

The numbers tell the story: the Reds sit fifth with 12 points and need a win, no two ways about it, if they don't want to watch the title race from a distance. Standing in their way is an opponent that never makes things easy. Brighton have always been one of those awkward sides capable of spoiling anyone's afternoon, and they arrive with extra motivation after sweeping the last head to head meeting.

The names who could decide it

In the home midfield, everything still runs through Alexis Mac Allister, as usual. The Argentine remains the team's metronome: he dictates the tempo, controls the rhythm of the game and regularly pops up near the opposition box. It's hard to imagine a competitive Liverpool without his fingerprints on the midfield.

On the other side, keep a close eye on Georginio Rutter. The Frenchman is in excellent form and has the numbers to prove it: two goals and two assists in his last four matches. If Brighton want to pull off an upset at Anfield, much of that responsibility will fall on his boots.

How they arrive

Liverpool come into this one riding high after a thriller in the Champions League, where they beat Villarreal 4-3 in a nail biting finish. Mac Allister, Ronald Araujo and Florian Wirtz were on the scoresheet for the Anfield side in that high drama night.

Brighton, meanwhile, had a much quieter outing: a scoreless draw against Jablonec in the Conference League. The result doesn't reveal much about what's coming, but it at least allowed them to arrive with fresher legs.

And when it comes to history, the recent head to head favors the Seagulls. The last time these two sides met, back in March 2026, Brighton came away with a 2-1 win thanks to a brace from Danny Welbeck. The visitors have every reason to believe they can repeat that feat.

Can Liverpool snap that uncomfortable streak against Brighton and take all three points at home? The match is set for this Sunday, October 25, at 9:00 a.m. (COL/PER/ECU) and 11:00 a.m. (ARG/UY/PAR), streaming live on Disney+ for South America.
