Liverpool completes Bradley Barcola signing from PSG for 120 million pounds
The French winger becomes the second most expensive signing in Reds history, behind only Alexander Isak.
Liverpool has resolved what was its top priority in the transfer market: reinforcing the attack out wide following Mohamed Salah's departure. According to ESPN, the club is on the verge of finalizing the signing of Bradley Barcola from Paris Saint-Germain for 120 million pounds (about 163 million dollars), a deal being wrapped up in the final hours that will make him the second most expensive signing in Reds history.
Only Alexander Isak ranks higher, having joined last season from Newcastle for 125 million pounds (170 million dollars). In other words, Barcola slots directly onto the podium of the biggest investments the Anfield club has ever made, which says a lot about how urgent it was for Liverpool to land a winger of that caliber.
The final agreement is structured as 100 million pounds fixed plus another 20 million in add-ons, a figure that also represents a significant discount from PSG's initial asking price of 145 million pounds. Negotiations had been stuck over that gap, but in recent hours the two sides broke the deadlock and reached an agreement.
A target set from the start of the window
Barcola wasn't just another option for Liverpool: he was THE target. With Salah gone after signing as a free agent with Trabzonspor, and with Manchester City and Tottenham circling Cody Gakpo, the club needed to sort out its wing urgently. Before settling on the Frenchman, the Reds had already knocked on Brighton's door for Yankuba Minteh, having two offers turned down, and had also explored a move for Crystal Palace's Ismaila Sarr. Neither path worked out, and everything ended up centering on Barcola's name.
The winger, who came up through Lyon's academy, still has two years left on his PSG contract, but his relationship with the Paris club already had an ending in sight. Barcola had expressed interest in joining Andoni Iraola's project, and in a squad as competitive as PSG's, securing regular starts had become an uphill battle.
Last season, the Paris side won both Ligue 1 and the Champions League, with Barcola a regular fixture in the attacking rotation. With the French national team, he played eight matches and scored three goals during the campaign that took France to the semifinals of the 2026 World Cup, a tournament in which the team finished fourth.
Now, with only the final details left to iron out, Liverpool is preparing to add a player who was looking for exactly what Anfield can offer him: minutes, prominence and a central role in the attack. For the Reds, the message is clear: there was no room to get the attacking overhaul wrong, and they decided to pay whatever it took to get it done.
