Liverpool and Racing split points in scoreless draw at Parque Viera, both left in no man's land in the Clausura

Neither Liverpool nor Racing moved off the scoreboard, but that doesn't mean Parque Viera stayed quiet. Quite the opposite: Sunday's 0-0 draw, part of matchday seven of the 2026 Clausura Tournament in the Uruguayan AUF League, produced an even, entertaining match with both goals surviving wave after wave of pressure.

If anything, there was no shortage of chances. Neither team held back, and the result could easily have gone another way if not for the work under both crossbars. Mathías Bernatene, goalkeeper for one side, and Federico Varese, for the other, had to stretch themselves out on several plays to keep their nets clean. In the end, they became the main characters of a draw that, deep down, left both sides wanting more.

A draw that weighs on both in the standings

This point didn't help either club move closer to its goals. In the Clausura table, Liverpool sits just one point behind Montevideo City Torque, which also has two games in hand, a fact that further complicates things for the Sayago side if it wants to fight for the top spots. Racing, for its part, remains five points behind the leader of that tournament, a gap that's starting to add up.

The tougher blow, though, landed on Liverpool in the Annual Table. The team lost ground to Peñarol, who remain the sole leader, and now trail the Carbonero by two points, with Peñarol also holding one game in hand. It's not a massive gap, but in a cumulative tournament, every point that slips away hurts. Even so, Liverpool reached 43 points and holds onto seventh place in that table, steady but still unable to make the jump it's looking for.

Racing, meanwhile, still has to close that five-point gap in the Clausura, something that won't be easy if the team keeps turning in performances like this one, where it created plenty but couldn't finish.

The next round brings different tests for each side. Liverpool will travel to face Central Español, a match where it will need all three points to avoid losing further ground in the Annual table. Racing, meanwhile, will host or face Progreso, needing a return to winning ways if it hopes to shrink the gap in the Clausura before the table slips further out of reach.
