Luis Díaz scores a hat trick as Bayern rout Leipzig 6-1 at the Allianz Arena
With three goals from Luis Díaz and strikes from Pavlovic, Olise and Kane, Bayern Munich ran riot against RB Leipzig and stays atop the Bundesliga.

It took Luis Díaz just eleven minutes to open the scoring at the Allianz Arena, and from there RB Leipzig had no answer. Bayern Munich ended up winning 6-1 on an afternoon when everything went right: every shot they tried seemed to find the net. Luis Díaz walked away with three goals, and the rest of the scoring (Aleksandar Pavlovic, Michael Olise and Harry Kane) was wrapped up before halftime or shortly after the hour mark.
The script was written fast. Díaz put Bayern ahead in the 11th minute with a low shot by the post after a through ball from Joshua Kimmich, and before the half hour mark it was already 2-0: Pavlovic finished left footed off an assist from Díaz himself in the 25th minute. Eight minutes later, Olise extended the lead with a shot from outside the box to make it 3-0 at the break.
If anyone expected a Leipzig response after the restart, it lasted exactly one minute: right at the start of the second half, in the 46th minute, Díaz popped up again to make it 4-0 off a Kane assist. Six minutes later Kane himself finished from close range after a counterattack started by Nathaniel Brown to make it 5-0, and in the 68th minute Díaz completed his hat trick with a third goal, this time from outside the box off a corner kick, for the 6-0. Leipzig pulled one back only in the 90th minute, when Andrija Maksimovic, assisted by Brajan Gruda, set the final score at 6-1.
A dominance the numbers back up
The Bundesliga doesn't usually produce margins this wide, but the match stats explain pretty well why it happened the way it did. Bayern controlled the ball for nearly two thirds of the match and outshot Leipzig on target by a wide margin.
| Stat | Bayern Munich | RB Leipzig |
|---|---|---|
| Possession (%) | 61.7 | 38.3 |
| Shots | 29 | 12 |
| Shots on target | 17 | 4 |
| Corners | 11 | 3 |
| Passes | 666 | 412 |
| Fouls committed | 15 | 6 |
The number that best sums up the home side's superiority is the expected goals tally calculated from the match's shots: 4.69 for Bayern against just 0.68 for Leipzig, an estimate made after the game that confirms what was seen on the field, not a pregame projection.
And speaking of pregame projections: our preview gave Bayern a 75% chance of winning, with 15% for a draw and just 10% for Leipzig. We also projected expected goals of 3.11 for the home side and 1.15 for the visitors, a combined total of 4.26. The final result ended up exceeding even that forecast favoring Bayern: six goals scored was nearly double what we anticipated, and the rout more than confirmed the trend the preview had already pointed to.
What it means in the standings
In the Bundesliga table, Bayern Munich climbs to 14 points from 6 matches played, with 4 wins, 2 draws and no losses, sharing the top spot with Borussia Dortmund, though with a notably superior goal difference. RB Leipzig, meanwhile, sits on 9 points from 6 matches (3 wins, no draws and 3 losses), a gap of 5 points behind Bayern in this head to head measure.
For Leipzig, the afternoon at the Allianz Arena leaves little to take away beyond Maksimovic's stoppage time goal. For Bayern, though, it was a complete exhibition: they struck first, never eased off, and closed out the match with a performance from Luis Díaz that was, by far, the individual story of the day.
