Luis Díaz scores as Bayern rout Leipzig in Telekom Cup

The left post of Leipzig's goal is probably still shaking. In the 13th minute, Luis Díaz took a touch, set his body and unleashed a right-footed shot that snuck in right next to the post, leaving the opposing goalkeeper with no chance. It was the first goal of the night and also the perfect summary of what his run with Bayern Munich has looked like so far.

Kompany's side went on to win 3-1 over Martín Demichelis's Leipzig at the Allianz Arena, in a Telekom Cup match that served as the first meeting with the home fans since returning from the Asian tour. For this match, Kompany still could not count on Harry Kane or Michael Olise, both given extended rest after the World Cup. A controlled match, with Lucho as the headliner

Strictly speaking, it was not the kind of performance that leaves jaws on the floor. Bayern managed the game from start to finish without needing to push too hard, which makes sense for a preseason friendly. But within that control, Luis Díaz was the name that got the crowd buzzing the most.

After his goal, the Colombian only got more comfortable. Sporting the platinum look he debuted recently, Lucho played 70 minutes and left the field to applause, direct recognition for an effort that had also paved the way for the win. The rest of the goals came from Brown, the new signing who started the match, and from Jamal Musiala, who came on in the second half and scored the third.

With this friendly now behind them, attention turns to Luis Díaz's first official match with Bayern. It will come on Saturday, August 22, at 1:30 p.m. (Colombia time), when the Bavarian side faces Borussia Dortmund in the German Supercup, with a trophy on the line.
