Manchester United hosts Manchester City in Premier League derby
Both sides need to back up their ambitions on matchday 4 of the English season.

Old Trafford puts on its best face this Sunday. And it's no surprise: whenever Manchester United and Manchester City take the field, the rest of the Premier League seems to pause for a moment to watch. It's the city derby once again, that same blend of history, pride, and the sense that not a second of the footballing calendar can be wasted.
United hosts City in matchday 4 of the Premier League, in a clash set for Sunday, September 14, kicking off at 10:30 a.m. (Colombia, Peru, Ecuador) and 11:00 a.m. (Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay). The match will be broadcast across South America on Disney+.
Two teams that need to prove themselves
Neither side arrives as the clear favorite just yet, but both want this match to serve as a statement of intent. The Premier League shows no mercy for early missteps, and both Ruben Amorim and Pep Guardiola know that a strong result in the derby carries more weight than the table suggests this early in September.
For United, the name to watch is Matheus Cunha. The Brazilian has been raising his level match after match and is emerging as the Red Devils' main offensive reference, on a team that needs goals so it doesn't have to rely solely on collective play.
On the other side, Erling Haaland remains City's guaranteed source of goals. The Norwegian arrives with confidence intact after his run at the Club World Cup and will look to build chemistry in the final third with Enzo Fernandez, one of the pieces Guardiola wants to sharpen in midfield.
How they arrive at the derby
Manchester United comes off a resounding 4-0 win over Sabah Baku in European competition, though its most recent Premier League outing was a 2-2 draw against Everton, a result that left a sour taste at Old Trafford.
City, meanwhile, had a week of two faces: the club thrashed Porto 2-0 in its continental fixture, but back in domestic league play, it struggled to edge out a narrow 1-0 win over Coventry City at the Etihad Stadium.
These results settle nothing on their own, but they do reflect the mindset each squad brings into Old Trafford. A derby hardly needs extra motivation to turn intense, but this time there's plenty on the line: both sides want to start the season strong, and neither is willing to hand the crosstown rival a single extra point.
